Help me wear less breton

I'm in a massive rut. I'm 32 and want relaxed tops to wear with jeans on a weekend. I own so many stripes!

I'm 5'10, size 12-14 and a pear so the stripes don't do much for me.

Help!

My DS calls them mummy's stripies. I'm too young to be this frumpy!!

(Or am I?)

What sort of style do you like? What else do you wear?

KirstenBlest · 12/03/2022 14:08

You like them, and they are good if you aren't busty but have a small waist.

Your DS is not your sty;list. Wear your stripes and get matching oones for DS

Watching with interest, a lot of my weekend tops are Joules, so I have lots of stripes too!

Could you throw on a chic blazer and pretend to be French? Oui oui?

Holidaycomedown · 12/03/2022 21:06

I suppose I'd like to think of my style as 'classic' but that's probably frumpy, isn't it? I liked warehouse and oasis when they still existed.

Jeans and a smartish top. I like to look feminine but not frilly. Often wear trainers or a flat boot.

I enjoy wearing dresses etc on holiday but don't really put much effort in day to day.. I think I go for the breton as it requires no thought but its starting to feel like my mum uniform

Any ideas for something more interesting looking that's also functional?

I own an awful lot of Joules “harbour” tops which pretty much all have stripes, so guilty of the same fashion crimes OP! What I would suggest instead are bold floral print tops - would that work? Or some nice sheer blouses with flowery prints - M&S have a lovely range out at the moment.

mummy stripes is too cute.
Blazer over the top would probably look good or why not try wearing dresses? 32 is young so you can and should wear anything really.

How about a classic oversize white shirt, can be dressed up with a blazer if needed but looks just as good with jeans and trainers

I love a harbour top. But also get the mum uniform. I have tried to move towards more understated knitwear grey/polo necks. Mint velvet kind of look. For the summer I go for good fitting pair of jeans, leather classic sandals (checkout saltwater sandals) a good fitting plain tshirt with a scarf/long necklace or statement bag!

What sort of thing do you like? If you’re looking for jeans and a top just vary the tops you wear - look at &Other Stories, Sézane, Asos etc for a range of tops to wear casually. You could swap the jeans for different trousers or even a different shape of jean.
