Festival style wedding

Hello, I am looking for some advice.
I have been invited to a festival style wedding in the summer and I need to start thinking about an outfit. I have never been to a festival in my life (I'm 58 years old). If you could give me some inspiration that would be great. I'm a size 14. Thank you

Well, you probably have been to a festival - just not identified it as such because it didn’t look like Glastonbury. Art? Theatre? Literature? Baking? Opera, SciFi?

Anyway. Presumably the wedding will be mostly outside? And intended to be bohemian / relaxed, as opposed to indoor and formal in style?

What’s your budget? What are the wedding party expecting? And how do you want to look?

Pyri · 11/03/2022 18:23

I’d go for a floral maxi dress

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 11/03/2022 18:27

As the PP said, last time I went to one of these I wore a floral maxi dress and flat strappy sandals. Long dress is better as you may have to sit on hay bales and it rules out anyone seeing your pants. Definitely no stilettos or you'll sink into the grass. Take layers as it will get cold and you'll probably still be outside. Jacket/coatigan and a wrap. Enjoy!

Ok I'll kick off a suggestion. What about this OP?

Questions - what colours do you like? Do you want any arm coverage? You're a 14 but what kind of shape are you and do you know what suits you? And how tall are you? And what's the budget?

RaininSummer · 11/03/2022 18:48

Floaty dress and stick flowers in your hair or go full on 70s vibe hippy.

RaininSummer · 11/03/2022 18:49

Or jeans and a funky top

Raera · 11/03/2022 18:52

I'm 63 and a festival goer
Get yourself some tickets OP!
I usually wear either a maxi dress or short denim skirt with a pretty top. Flat shoes (or colourful wellies for an authentic look) and definitely a wrap or coat.

heldinadream · 11/03/2022 18:53

Bit more expensive but really pretty.

This is gorgeous if you're the right shape for it! (I wouldn't be.)

@whineybing you never came back?

nearlyspringyay · 12/03/2022 10:22

Floral maxi dress and boots or sandals depending on weather

TottersBlankly · 12/03/2022 10:30

This dress but with a leather belt and some lovely tan brown boots?

TottersBlankly · 12/03/2022 10:39

Alternatively, if you want to spend money:

This would be rather fine - and wearable forever afterwards. May be on sale soon.

whineybing · 12/03/2022 11:04

Hi, sorry I haven't been back, I have been having a nightmare logging in.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I am loving the monsoon dresses and the M&S one. I think I would prefer something midi rather than maxi (visions of tripping over the bottom of the dress and showering someone with G&T).

Thank you everyone.

I would suggest less formal than say a country house wedding so floral dress (not touching the ground). I would check about flooring - flat sandals might be and option with perhaps wellies on standby for the festival look.

gogohm · 12/03/2022 11:15

Don't forget a chunky cardigan and waterproof jacket if it's all outside. When I go to festivals I take leggings to put on under my dresses in the evening for warmth

whineybing · 12/03/2022 11:41

I'm thinking I might go right out of my comfort zone and do the boho look. I have been looking at Joe Browns and there are some possibilities there. You're never too old to try something completely different.

Thank you everyone

Joe Browns is a good shout.

These guys also have some nice not too expensive things that might fit the bill.
