Afternoon tea - what to wear for my 40th?!

For my 40th I'm going for afternoon tea at The Grand in Birmingham with my mum. The trouble is I'm stuck on what to wear. I've got a lovely black jumpsuit which I'm tempted by but don't really have a clue what coat to put with it.

It'll be July so nothing too hot and ideally I'd like to get good wear out of it. I'm thinking something longer would look better than a jacket. I usually shop at M&S, Uniqlo, Sea Salt, and when there's a sale on, Boden.

If you love the jumpsuit why wear a coat with it? July should be warm enough to not need a coat or jacket 😀 also it’s a real mixed bag in the Grand as in some people are more casual, some more formally dressed so just wear what you feel comfortable in 😊

That's a good point about the coat, I guess I'm so used to venturing out these days and it being freezing, I can't imagine not needing one!

Actually, I sort of thought that about the coat, as in do you need it. Are you someone who would use a wrap, in case it was a bit chillier/unseasonal iuswim? Maybe a cashmere/blend that would fold right down? Only any use if you'd actually use it again. I've often seen them suggested they're useful on 'planes, but not done it myself.

I thought about some sort of wrap too, might have to You Tube some tutorials as I never look as chic and put together as I'd like!

I've decided to go for the wide leg trousers and silk blouse combo with some pointy/almond toe flats. Think that will look nice and I can get some wear out of it afterwards. Just hate splashing the cash on a posh outfit only for it to sit in my wardrobe for years afterwards.
