Wedding hats

Hello, I’ve NC here.

I’m going to a wedding early October at a country house for a university friend. The invite says to dress to impress and hats are especially welcome. This friend is quite traditional.

I honestly have no idea what to wear and have no inspiration at the moment.

Where do you find a wedding hat? I don’t want to spend an absolute fortune. What colour is best? I’m around 5ft5 size 10/12 and pear shaped. Warmer colouring.

Try a department store (they usually have them year round, but a bigger choice in the summer, so you may want to buy ahead)

Also look in charity shops - lots end up,there.

What colour/type depends on what else you're thinking of wearing. Do you have any thoughts on that?

I had a chat with my hairdresser. She obviously does loads of hairstyles for weddings and was brilliant suggesting the size and style of hat that would suit me.

See if there's a hat hire place near you. Take your outfit along with you and they'll help you choose a fabulous hat at a fraction of the cost of buying one.

That’s an idea with hat hire.

I had a look at John Lewis and there seemed to be nothing really there.

Are any department stores good?

I got one from here. The quality was surprisingly good for the price.

Seriously the charity shops will be full of them within the next month or so .

At 5'5", I'd avoid the wide flying saucer types and go for something that proportionally has a bit of height.

I go to a local milliner, she has hundreds of hats to choose from (or she can make to your design obv, but that costs more) and she's amazing at suggesting the right hat to go with an outfit and what will suit you. She does feathery halo bands which are very stylish and suit more petite frames (not me) Lisa Von Hallwyl
