Now that mask wearing days are over, I feel like splashing out on new lovely lipsticks.

I tend to always end up with much the same shades. My favourites are Bobbi Brown and Chanel (Adrienne and Cecile - nudes are so easy to wear for every day, you don’t have to be so precise).

I could revert to my old favourites, but what are your favourites?

Chanel double ended ones.
Natasha Denona Sava

Another vote for Mac velvet teddy - it's the only lipstick I've ever found that looks right. I owned it for the first time several years ago when we got married, the MUA used it so I bought it off her. Just treated myself to another stick.

Mac do minis so I'm tempted to try another colour, but not sure which. I've got naturally full lips, which sounds lovely but means I don't have the confidence to wear really strong colours in case it's too much Sad

Mac Vegas Volt Max Factor Bewitching Coral Boots No 7 Crayon Daydreamer
I like No7 daydreamer but not used it for a while. Is it still OK and long lasting, I know No7 have had a revamp recently.

MAC Hug Me is my perfect "your lips but better" shade.

Other favourites include MAC Touch and Twig, and also Tropic Tonic when I want something bright (it's a coral red).

MadisonAvenue · 09/03/2022 22:20

MAC Vegas Volt, Mandarin O, Runway Hit and Sheer Outrage.

I suit a warm toned coral, Runway Hit and Sheer Outrage are a bit more subtle and I tend to keep the first two more for Summer but needed a boost today so used Mandarin O and it really brightened my face up and lifted my mood.

MAC Honey Love or Kinda Sexy if I have a bit of a tan going on.
Also enjoying MAC stripdown liner or CT liner - hot gossip both with Honey Love.

I’ve owned velvet teddy for yonks but don’t wear it as it comes out so very very dark on my lips, I understood it to be a nude shade but it’s very much like a brown on me. Same with Twig. Blankety is way too purple toned for me but I do love the feel of the MAC amplified range.
I love the feel of my Natasha Denone but definitely picked the wrong shade and did the same with a Vieve lipstick - love the formula but colour way off. I am no longer buying online - in store only!

One place I know that does custom make up is Cosmetics a la carte.

I have a few. I love make up. Mac Rebel is a fav, it's a pinky berry shade and great for autumn and winter it's a, nice eye-catching shade but not crazy bright. Lancome Pidgean Blood Ruby which is a burgundy shade and a, bit vampy. Then there's Lancome Berry Noir a dark rich Berry pinker than the Pidgean Blood Ruby. Clinique Even Pop lip colour Foundation in Nestled which is a brown, pinky mauve for day time, then there's Clinique Pop in Plum Pop a soft plum for day to day wear. And Poppy Pop which is a red with a hint of coral. I can get away with it even though I'm cool toned. My forever favourite is a Lancome one called Rock on fushia. It was so dreamy. A bright pink that had different colors shot through it, a bit like when you look at oil from different angels. Obviously it was subtle. I really loved that lipstick. It's discontinued now, Mac Girl about Town is similar but without all the fabulous finish. I also like Max Factor in English Rose. It's quite 80s as it has a frost finish but that's what I love about it, it's retro and looks really nice with chunky oatmeal coloured knitwear and a plummy blusher. It also really suits my pale freckled skin and dark hair.

BusterGonad · 10/03/2022 11:24

And 2 more, Elizabeth Arden in Neoclassical Coral. That was so nice. A real face brightener. Perfect for a bright spring day. And Smash Box in Get Fired. Another orangey red but this had a twist as it had micro shimmer in gold. So it was a matte but had a really nice subtle shimmer running through it. I really want to get this one again but they don't have Smash Box where I live! 🙄

Any reccos for a budget lipstick that suits Asian skin? Looking for a deep matte raspberry.

My current fave red is Red Rules The World by Revlon. Great name too.

ouchmyfeet · 10/03/2022 11:55

I went to MAC recently with a "my lips but better" brief and the make up artist worked her way to a lovely pinky brown shade called Fast Play. I also really like In Love With Olivia by Charlotte tilbury, it's another nude shade.

For brighter and bolder shades I love Charlotte tilbury's Love Bite (bright red, perfect for my cool skin tone) and no 7 have a tool which scans your skin to identify the best foundation colour for you but also which lipsticks suit you best. This picked out a bright pink for me which I would never have chosen but absolutely love (Soft Tulip)

Have you looked at the l'oreal range (traditional bullet lipsticks), they have so many beautiful mattes.

Sorry, can’t comment on the new package one as I’m still using up a stash of older ones. I tend to stock up when they have the money off etc offers. Hope they haven’t changed it. At least it’s still there unlike others they discontinued like Petal & the bright Tropical something that were so nice.

Bignanny30 · 10/03/2022 18:44

Thankyou

Another vote for MAC Velvet Teddy - it's everything that Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk should be but isn't.
And another for velvet teddy
AColdDuncanGoodhew · 10/03/2022 18:53

We're supposed to still wear masks in Scotland but I now have long covid and haven't been able to wear one now for a few months now.

I've taken the opportunity to get some new lipsticks as my others were all getting a bit old and grotty.

I'm loving the Clinique pop ones. I have Bare Pop for a nude, Passion Pop (red) and Plum Pop. Also adore Black Honey for everyday.

For other nudes I love Vieve, the lipliner in Brat all over with some lip balm or gloss on top is gorgeous. Also recently got the Deity lipstick which is a deeper nude for me, great formula too and I've got some more in my online basket!

DedalusBloom · 10/03/2022 19:34

Velvet Teddy looks very Meh on me but I'm a bright winter so should have known better.

Lipstick Queen Jungle Queen
Max Factor Marilyn Sunset Red ( although I have to stalk this one through outlet websites now)
NARS Schiap
NARS Stella

I've probably got another 20 lipsticks but these are the ones I wear 95% of the time.

If it helps, I'm blonde with blue/ grey eyes
