Wasting money on shite ones that have the consistency of sudocrem (I'm looking at you Revolution)

I want a medium coverage that isn't going to go flaky or cakey!!

Am going shops tomorrow so what should I try?

The ordinary serum foundation

SylviasMotherSaid · 07/03/2022 19:14

L’Oréal Infallible

Charlieb93 · 07/03/2022 19:14

Following! So far I’ve tried; nars, Estée Lauder and IT cosmetics. All meh. Best I’ve had so far was a L’Oréal one but I can’t for the life of me remember which one it was.

I used to always use Clarins mineral foundation, but recently I have been looking a less costly Foundations & was recommended to try The Ordinary Serum Foundation. It’s really good & inexpensive too. I bought a few different shades to find the right one.. If you like a light foundation, with a good coverage, it’s worth a try. I’m in my 50s and it’s perfect for me.

Ooh interesting. Do they have a counter? I never know what shade to get

The thing that makes your foundation look horrible is usually your skin, I've found. If you are getting a cakey look and you've tried a few different ones with the same results, maybe think about whether more exfoliating/moisture etc might make the difference?
When my skin is flaky (due to excessive tretinoin use, my usual issue) I find Clinique Anti Blemish Solutions BB Cream the best option. It isn't a BB cream though, don't be fooled - it's a very runny, watery texture foundation with good coverage and it is very lightweight.

Badtasteflump · 07/03/2022 19:25

Estée Lauder. Double Wear for medium to full coverage, or Hydra Rescue for a lighter more dewy finish - both are excellent! If you go to their counter, they will colour match you and give you a little sample bottle with about ten day's worth in.

I would add that I also now use Aldi q10 multi intensive serum at £2.99 & that is amazing too, as well as Avon Magix Smoothing SPF20 Primer at £8 for a good make up fix. Everyone comments on how lovely my skin looks & I am in my 50s.

singlepringlenotbychoice · 07/03/2022 19:26

Illamasqua. It wasn't a brand I'd looked at before but it's been a revolution. Doesn't sink into any fine lines, gives good buildable coverage and my skin looks radiant. Products layer well over it and it last well throughout the day even with masks on and off. A little goes a long way too

HastaLaVistaBebe · 07/03/2022 19:28

I recommend Bobby Brown stick foundation. They're quite expensive but last ages and give a very natural look. I put on moisturizer first.

HastaLaVistaBebe · 07/03/2022 19:29

Sorry, Bobbi

Juelz · 07/03/2022 19:30

@foundayshone I think Boots stock The Ordinary, but I ordered it online. I think it’s around £6 so you can order a few shades & it won’t break the bank 😂

Lotsofpots · 07/03/2022 19:34

The Lisa Eldridge foundation is the best I've ever used - buildable coverage, skin-like finish, beautiful light texture, superb range of colours. Love it.

HeadingForHome · 07/03/2022 19:35

After lots of recommendations on here I switched from Estée Lauder double wear to Boots No7 hydraluminous and it's great. Won't go back now.

Wartywart · 07/03/2022 19:35

Revlon Colorstay gives a good, reliable coverage. Estée Lauder double wear slightly beats it, but for the money I don't think you can go far wrong with the Revlon one.

HeadingForHome · 07/03/2022 19:35

I tried The Ordinary but didn't like it at all, it was so watery. Different strokes I guess!

Nillynally · 07/03/2022 19:36

Mac face and body. It's super light but buildable. I can't wear anything else now!

Juelz · 07/03/2022 19:38

I think, as someone else said, if your skin isn’t good, your foundation won’t look good. You do need to look after your skin with a bit of a cleansing & moisturise routine 😊

DedalusBloom · 07/03/2022 19:38

If it has the consistency of Sudocrem then some

PersephonePomegranate · 07/03/2022 19:38

I've used Clinique Superbalance for years. Lots of shades and good consistency and coverage.

Theworldisfullofgs · 07/03/2022 19:41

I like lily lolo. It's a mineral foundation and my skin looks considerably better with this. I tried other things and went back to it. I have reasonable skin for my age and have had to make some adjustments.

DedalusBloom · 07/03/2022 19:41

Sorry posted too soon-

  • if your foundation is the consistency of Sudocrem somethings gone wrong!

The Collection foundation is very good

No7 Hydraluminous is great

If you are packing foundation on to hide skin issues then as a PP said, it's worth getting your skin in order first ( as much as you can, aware that's not an overnight fix for anybody)

RedRobin100 · 07/03/2022 19:47

I rarely wear make up now so when I do just use a good tinted moisturiser - the Nars one. It’s very nice, light and to be honest cost pretty much same as the foundation.

BOOTS52 · 07/03/2022 19:47

I wear Lancome Teint Idole Ultra wear 010 and have clear pale skin with some redness that use concealer that cover is up but am going to go a shade down in colour. I started to drink lots more water and skin not so dry now. I buy cheaper make up eyeliner, lipstick etc but tried lots of other foundations and either like water or too thick and gloopy. Ask for a sample at lancome counters and they should give you a few different shades. This lasts me forever so worth it.

RosesAndHellebores · 07/03/2022 19:49

No 7 Perfect finish I think £14 but nearly always buy 1 get one 1/2 price x
