What foundation should I get? Bloody sick of

Wasting money on shite ones that have the consistency of sudocrem (I'm looking at you Revolution)

I want a medium coverage that isn't going to go flaky or cakey!!

Am going shops tomorrow so what should I try?

I actually love the garnier bb cream! Don't wear make up these days but it looks amazing on.

NotABear · 07/03/2022 22:26

I've recently started using Rosalique as a primer and I've found I'm using less foundation and my foundation is sitting much better on my skin.
A primer maybe worth a shout?

NorthernSoul55 · 07/03/2022 22:38

Primark double wear dupe! £5, lighter than double wear (which now makes a great concealer) but decent coverage. Doesn't oxidise or sit in my lines. Limited shades though.

sunshineforest · 08/03/2022 07:27

@MintyGreenDream

Armani luminous touch
This.

Best foundation ever, very light and natural looking

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/03/2022 07:29

@Badtasteflump

Estée Lauder. Double Wear for medium to full coverage, or Hydra Rescue for a lighter more dewy finish - both are excellent! If you go to their counter, they will colour match you and give you a little sample bottle with about ten day's worth in.
I agree, nothing compares to DW but the secret is to get the correct colour.
cannaethink · 08/03/2022 12:53

I’ve recently started using L’Oréal infallible and I really like it. I used DW light for years, tried the new sheer one which was rubbish, so have been on the lookout for a new one.
I had been using Mac face and body which I like but it’s very sheer and a bit shiny. The L’Oréal keeps me shine free for ages and seems pretty comparable with DW light for longevity. You need to be quick to blend it though! I use a damp sponge and get a nice finish.

MrsBerthaRochester · 08/03/2022 13:19

Charlotte tilbury beautiful skin foundation. Light to medium coverage and makes me look glowy.

JoanDarc · 08/03/2022 14:28

Boots hydraluminous is fantastic, I used to splurge on foundations but think this is better than ones x 3 the price. Good coverage but natural, easily buildable. It’s also a perfect balance between not totally flat (EL double wear looking at you!) or too glowy (read shiny).

Hailsafe · 08/03/2022 14:54

I have really shiny skin so find the ‘flatness’ of double wear good tbh. Plus it is the only one that doesn’t transfer to clothes or masks!

I apply it with a buffer brush which avoids the flat look.
PAFMO · 08/03/2022 17:17

@Pob13

Has anyone ever been to a beauty counter and had them find the right shade, etc? Do they actually know what they are doing?
N7, Clarins, Clinique, definitely. Estée Lauder favour the rather orange look. In fairness I only went to be matched by them once (it was enough) and when I looked at myself in the mirror I'd been tango'd.
Pob13 · 08/03/2022 20:34

@PAFMO thanks, thats good to know.

Do you use a primer first? I can’t build it, it comes off if I try and ends up looking like I’ve got a dirty face.

I really want to love it.

I’m using a essence cheap wilkco one at the moment which is amazing and it’s so so cheap. Good coverage, doesn’t transfer. Easy to apply. Can’t remember where I heard of it.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/03/2022 08:23

I'm not a fan of Hydraluminous either, it aged me 20 years and looked the opposite of luminous on me Grin

JungleBungles · 09/03/2022 08:33

My top 3 at the moment

no7 hydraluminous (this is my favourite)
lancome teint idole (use this every now and again)
The ordinary (it’s a bit watery but does look ok)

HeadingForHome · 09/03/2022 11:00

Does the No.7 stay put though? I’ve found the only foundation that doesn’t come off on clothing/masks etc is Estee Lauder Double wear

@Hailsafe yes, although I use a powder over it. If I didnt use powder it would probably be absolutely everywhere (that goes for all foundation for me!) I've found the staying power pretty good though compared to most foundations I've tried.

Hailsafe · 09/03/2022 11:58

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

Yes, I use a buffer brush too - much more natural

tigerbear · 09/03/2022 12:11

I’ve used most of the foundations mentioned on here, eg Hydraluminous (very sheer and greasy), Il Makiage (difficult to blend), Doublewear (very heavy and drying, settled into every wrinkle), Armani (nice and natural, but very expensive. I was using this as my new favourite in the summer, but doesn’t look so good on winter skin), Charlotte Tilbury (looked mask like).

My newest one is by Kosas, and I love it.
Immediately makes me look more ‘alive’
It’s a very glowy finish, and maybe not best for those with very oily skin, as there is a bit of shine. I’m 45 with dry skin on cheeks, oily t-zone, and it works for me with a tiny bit of powder on top.

Blush21 · 09/03/2022 12:17

My favourite day to day is Rimmel match perfection. Medium that can be built up to full coverage. I use nars/urban decay for nights out etc but rimmel is fab! Lasts a long time and looks great even with my dry skin

JoanDarc · 09/03/2022 22:27

@DobbyTheHouseElk I don’t use a primer as standard, normally just put it on over my Hado Labo super hydrator lotion. I then buff it in with a stippling foundation brush and build where necessary.
I was using Armani luminous silk before and think this is a better product.
For reference, skin is dehydrated mid 40s, prone to dryness due to retinol but not massively so.

247SylviaPlath · 09/03/2022 22:50

No7 hydraluminous For my aging dry skin is perfect. Use urban decay setting spray if I want it to be bullet proof. Paired with powder like the Charlotte tilbury flawless filter it’s great, but also good on its own, I just prefer to powder down my t zone a bit
