Frumpy 50+ needs a relaunch

I'm 52, 5'6" and a size 16/18 and my look is Lisa Tarbuckesque for want of a better description. I work in a senior managerial role and do have botox, regular hair care, facials etc however I feel that after two years of lockdown I need a wardrobe overhaul.

So I'm seeking advice from the not so frumpy over 50s....where do you shop? what do you wear? Links welcome.

Sorry I'm no good at links but I've just turned 50 and at 5.5 am a similar size to you.

Do you have to be super smart for work or can you do smart casual? I love dresses, wide leg trousers and blazers.

Mint velvet, m and s, h and m are quite good shops to start with?

They all have frumpy stuff interspersed with some really lovely bits. I don't know what Liza tarbuck dresses like so I'm not sure what your particular style is?

Don't you know frumpy is an abhorrent word on here? 😂

I’m older but a similar height and size, roll poly apple shaped middle.

This winter I’ve lived in wide leg trousers with a loafer or brogue, structured knitwear or shirt and a non matching blazer.

With Spring upon us I’ll be getting out my cigarette pants and blouses with a tonal cardi —I know the mn hate of cardis but I do not care— Shoes will be same as above but with a sling back flat or ballet pump as the weather warms up.

I have three work coats in neutral colours that I wear on rotation. I’m not a lover of multiple handbags so I just have two in Black and Tan, both are good quality leather.

I tend to wear plain, unpatterned clothes in colours that suit me. I’m in no way fashionable but have been told by people that I’m stylish.
