What to do with my grey hair

Looking for some hair advice please!
I have long dark hair. I have grey hairs, increasing in number, they are all in the same area - they are growing in a patch of a couple of inches above my ears and nowhere else, not on the top of my head or anywhere at the back. So if my hair is down you can't see them, but I like to tie my hair up and then you can really see the grey.
Permanent hair dye has been useless as the greys grow at lightning speed, so I end up with permanently dyed hair and a few weeks later a new crop of grey! Temporary die has also been useless and it washes out after a few weeks. I wondered about getting some highlights, so if some hair was highlighted then the grey would stand out less. But are highlights a bit 1980s?
I've done nothing at all to my hair for over ten years (except trim the ends myself) so I don't even know what hair options there are these days. Any advice?

Personally....I did nothing. Just let it grow through. I really don't have the time, patience or money to jump on the hair dye wagon.

I quite like the silver strands - my hair has gradually turned a lovely soft ashy colour.

I do however invest in regular haircuts to keep it looking neat....also good conditioner and hair oils, as the grey is much drier/frizzier.

It actually sounds really cool!

I henna my long 'salt and pepper' hair - gives the look of reddish highlights.

I got highlights. Didn’t work - the grey was still really obvious. You need an all-over dye, I’m considering henna.

Henna here too. As I have got greyer it still works. I’m over 50% grey now maybe more but the henna is still covering. Plus it keeps it in nice condition.

I have similar but at the front - my 11 year old says I look like the Marvel character Rogue GrinBlush (I don't but there are worse things for your child to describe you as Grin ). www.marvel.com/characters/rogue/in-comics

Have you seen Phillipa Perry - she makes a feature of white stripes in her hair and looks amazing.

You can get just your roots coloured to match your natural hair colour. A hairdresser should be able to do this (I can get a 15 min appt to just colour, wash and self dry) and expect to go every 5/6 weeks.

Alternatively you could use esalon who can provide all you need to DIY and their colour matching is very good. I mix and match both. I quite like my natural hair colour so not overly keen on changing that.
