Hi, I’ve just started earning again after being a sahm with 3 kids and want to start looking after myself again! I’m thinking of getting gel manicure done regularly but could probably only afford it once a month, does anyone else leave it that long? Do they look really tatty after a couple of weeks? Thanks

I have mine done every 5 weeks. They only really start peeling and chipping around week 3-4 and sometimes they're still fully on when I get my next lot, just growing out. A lot depends on your nails and the strength of the top coats I think.

My nails grow quickly so after 2 weeks they need redoing on me - I stopped getting gels as it was too much upkeep to go to the salon every two weeks. It does depend on your nails though. Personally I’d spend the money on other things eg good nail polish and manicure set that I can do at home (I like Dior Nail Glow) and spend the money on things like eyebrow tint and shape or LVL lashes.

I can really only wear mine for two weeks - by the third week they look awful with way too much growth on my nail. The manicure itself is fine, not tatty at all, but it just doesn’t look good to have a huge gap at the bottom.

Yeah they start to look a bit scruffy after two weeks, especially if you have dark colours. Not so bad with nudes or French.

Perhaps buy a gel lamp and do them yourself? That's what I do and it works well. The outlay isn't too bad and then you get a manicure when you fancy it!

I do them every month. I can't justify any sooner even with regrowth.

The gel stays pristine, but you do get that annoying gap at the top.
