Clothes for short person in their 50s

I seem to have lost my way with clothes but desperately need new clothes. I'm 5 ft tall and in my mid/late 50s and just don't know where to look. I hate shopping online as don't really know what suits me so need to try stuff on. I actually hate shopping and not got anything new for years. When I've gone shopping I've often left with nothing. Where should I look and what should I buy? I don't even know what suits me anymore. I tend to wear skinny jeans (now wearing thin) and various tops but would love some new things!

Fellow short person here. I like Uniqlo for trousers and they will hem them for you in store if over £23.

Tops, sea salt, lands end is good. Whistles £££.
boden dresses are good and they do a petite but I find their prints a bit much.

I would pick your favourite colour then buy clothes in that colour. Then neutral jeans to match.

Also eBay for vintage jumpers in your colour

Cropped Levi’s 501 are good but high waisted.

Do you know what shape you are? Ie. Pear, apple, etc. once you know this, Google what styles of clothes suit your figure. It makes clothes shopping a lot easier.

Eg. I’m a pear, so should go for dark trousers, bootcut, brighter tops, higher necklines, etc. it makes clothes shopping a lot easier.

I know a couple of shorter people who’ve had really good personal shopper experiences at John Lewis. I don’t know if they are still offering this service, or if yiu have a branched near you, but could be worth looking in to. They both said there was no pressure to buy, and the shoppers picked out things they’d never have considered, but really liked.

shape 2a

A couple of random sites that may help

I’m a bit shorter than you and like the M&S jeggjngs and also their £20 Lily jeans. I tend to team them with band t-shirts and DM sandals in the summer and cashmere jumpers and Solovair boots in winter. Still stuck in my teenage years fashion wise!

I'm also 5 foot and I buy clothing mainly from the petite ranges at Next, Matalan, TU Sainsbury's.

gunnersgold · 05/03/2022 07:55

What size and shape are you? I'm 5 foot and late 40's .

everyonebutme · 05/03/2022 07:59

I'm a solid 10 or maybe a 12. Quite muscular and a little bit overweight for my height. I've looked at the websites suggested above and not quite sure of my shape (will study in further details). My boobs have reduced in size in recent years but I've still got a bit there! And I guess I'm a little bit rounded around my hips/bum so maybe a pear. Thanks for the suggestions so far....
