Sun Hats

What is everyone's thoughts on sun hats? Do you wear them? I feel like other people can pull them off but I'm only 4'11 with a very small frame and I'm worried I'll look like a bit of a twat and won't be able to pull it off. But I absolutely hate the sun in my face and would like to buy one for this summer.

Any recommendations?

I have three hats that I wear for different levels of dressiness:
Simple black baseball cap
Plain Panama hat
Big floppy straw sun hat.
I probably get most use out of the baseball cap because it’s easy to carry around and doubles as protection from light rain.
The one I use least is the big floppy because it’s harder to balance out with the rest of the outfit… can honestly feel like a bit of a mushroom even though I’m 5’6 and a bit of an extrovert.
If you don’t like caps then Panama is really good choice but I’d buy a man’s one with a plain band as I find ones designed for women can be overly embellished and fussy.
Obviously there are loads of other more statement designs like straw bucket hats but I find I can’t see out from under the rim so they are useless when walking around.

Oh I love a sun hat, but then I have a lot of family who have had skin cancer and a sun hat is a much easier way to shade my face.

I have a couple and will buy another this year. Im short (5'1"), and the very big floppy hats do run the risk of looking like a mushroom. As you are even smaller than me, do you have a small head? You could buy kids ones.

I need to buy a sun hat (or a few) following a melanoma diagnosis this year. I'm dreading it to be honest, I feel silly in a sun hat nothing seems to look right.

How does everyone pack their sun hat to take it on holiday? Are there any nice straw type ones that pack away and spring back?

The big floppy one I referred to up thread is raffia and can be rolled up and shoved in a bag. I think if you google foldable raffia hats you’ll get some options

I'm in the same boat. I wear proper thick hats in winter and I really don't mind if they don't suit me 100% as I can't bear to be cold but the summer is different. Hate the sun burning my face but I cannot find anything remotely acceptable for the summer. Big floppy hats, baseball and bucket ones are out. Not much choice left after !

Anazon so a straw hat that that is just brim, no centre, so it rolls up into something easily packable. I carry it in my handbag in summer. It's fab, but the brim is massive (and therefore useful) and I look like a Handmaid's extra. I don't care, I'm done with sun.
