Smart black trousers - Boden Richmond or..?

I'm after a pair of smart black trousers for a family funeral in a couple of weeks. I'm on maternity leave at the moment but hoping to be able to wear them for work once I'm back so happy to spend a bit. I've been looking at the Boden Richmond 7/8 trousers but wondering if the style of them is maybe a bit outdated now. Does anyone have any other lovely black trews they can recommend?

I wore Richmond trousers about five years ago but there are better options. I've just bought a pair of wide legged black trousers by Vince discounted on Otrium. They are really flattering.

Would recommend the above - fabric has a decent weight and the trousers hang nicely.

Ooh I like the look of these! How do you find the sizing?

Hi OP I've been on a quest for good black trousers and have found these that I really like:

www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/hampshire-jersey-trousers/sty-t0266

I'm really picky and am really happy with both of these - the Jaegar in particular feel and look very classy.

Marbles321 · 02/03/2022 18:46

And to add i really don't like Richmond trousers - funny shape on me, and waistband is lower than I would like - noticeable at the back, on me anyway!

RonCarlos · 02/03/2022 18:47

I've got the Hampshire ones for work. They're not really fashionable, more classic style nice trousers. I find them really comfy too.

PickleASturgeon · 02/03/2022 19:14

I usually take a 14 in Marks - got them in a 14 and found them a good fit.

I'm 5'5 and the regular was just the right length for me.

Ah that's interesting. I'm quite pear shaped and had noticed in the reviews that a few people say they can be tight over the hips, so they may not work for me either!

Beware the M and S Jaegar ones are dry clean only!

Sickoffamilydrama · 02/03/2022 22:55

I've bought these from Next recently they look great on I think they'd work for a pear shape.

Here's how they look on as well.

I need this thread in my life! Really need some decent black trousers.

Wish those Jaegar ones weren't dry clean.

Marbles321 · 03/03/2022 20:44

I wore the jaegar ones for work today and I love them so much I don't care they are dry clean only. I've been on the hunt for honestly about 2 years for the right classic black trousers- smart but understated. These are perfect - tailored without being too masculine and so comfortable.
The Hampshire ones I linked to are a great alternative (very different shape though) and wash at home really well. Also very comfy - feel like joggers!

Hampshires are much smarter than Richmonds and fit a million times better.
I find Richmonds look fabulous the second you put them on, but lift your leg, sit down, walk and they've ridden up and bagged round the knee.
Hampshires meanwhile (even the 7/8 one) don't.
I have all 3 variety of Hampshire and prefer the bootcut for "smart".
I've been hanging my nose over those Jaeger ones though....

Geamhradh · 04/03/2022 05:53

Re: sizing.
Boden and M&S are pretty similar- I'm a 12 (long if possible) in both.
Jaeger is generous and I'd go a size smaller
Mango is upside down vanity and I need a L or XL. Confused

RonCarlos · 04/03/2022 18:10

The Hampshire's are proper comfy too. Agree about the Richmonds. I have some but they are as yet unworn.
