Inspired by the 'what has the last two years done to your style' thread, which reminded me that I've been wearing the same two pairs of jeans and selection of jumpers and thermals on rotation for months, I've decided to try and sharpen up a bit. I don't mean heels and a tonne of make-up because I would just never keep that up but just a bit more fresh and stylish. I cycle to work so trousers and flats probably more practical but would really appreciate any ideas for four or five capsule type items to invest in, and some general tips for looking less drab. I'm 44, around 168/169cm and a size 8, generally pretty healthy lifestyle, though could do with more water and less sugar.

Oh I feel the same!
Planning to get hair done more regularly, nails done more regularly and buy some new makeup.
Badly in need of some new clothes as we head back into office next week … but don’t even know where to start!

I really rate the Wears My Money blog. She did a capsule wardrobe the other week

Thanks, @wildery will have a look in my lunch break!
@OldKingCole I had my hair done this week and started a skin routine. Make-up bag is a horrible rag bag of desiccated mascaras, broken eyeshadow sets and some lip/cheek tint (which I actually still swear by as an alternative to blusher) so that needs addressing. But yes, also, the clothes...

Do you know what colours suit you?
Sounds like it’s time for new makeup, you can keep it simple- tinted moisturiser, cheek and lip tint and a brow gel takes seconds.

Would you try a jumpsuit? Your figure sounds like you could wear most things.

Thanks @twilightstarbright yes, I think so. I'm really pale so black and pale florals wash me out (and I suspect navy does too but I love it). I'm best with warm, autumnal colours - gold, orange, forest greens. peacock and pale blue works well but not royal blue. I'm not sure bold patterns are great on me though that may just be me playing it v safe.

Brow gel sounds interested. I've got dark eyebrows but quite fair hair.

I like the idea of a jumpsuit but have never had the nerve to wear one!!

I've been trying to take care of my skin- so a multivitamin (pregnacare for the time being!) Weekly exfoliation (just a scrub from Holland and Barrett) and a quest to find a better night cream. Possibly a vitamin c serum if I do my research

2 years of a pandemic and alllll the screen time has left me pasty. I've found dove face gradual tan a bit of a godsend, cheap and brightens me up.
