My son is getting married abroad in June. Hot country. I've been looking for an outfit but haven't seen anything I like so have sketched what I think would suit my shape.

Im size 12 (but of course hope to lose some weight). Would like floaty chiffony style but I have rules. Knees and possibly(c)ankles need to be covered Also have a bit of a tummy so need to skim that area plus would like sheer cover for tops of arms.

I always like a cross over front style as have biggish boobs or could go Bardot neckline but need to wear a bra.

I have seen mn come up with fab ideas for others so if anyone has seen something like this with stockist in UK I would be most grateful.

Thanks all

ASOS has these, under the bridesmaid bit of their site

tradition · 01/03/2022 12:58

Thanks, I'll take a look. I thought ASOS was for younger folk !

I think your dream outfit looks far too bridal/bridesmaidy, and you may look like you are making a statement.

Have you spoken to your son and DIL about outfit ideas?

It might all be completely fine and where what you want- but it may look a bit awkward if bride or bridesmaid is also wearing something flowy with a similar neckline.

Suprima · 01/03/2022 13:03

…assuming your DS isn’t marrying another man that is!

Have a look at John Lewis, or book a styling appointment (can so this online or in person). A few ideas to get you started

This site has loads of floaty longish dresses.

'Tea length' MOB suggestions.

Roman, Phase Eight, Ted Baker, have some lovely dresses, sometimes you can pick up a brand new designer dress at a much lower price on Ebay.

LookItsMeAgain · 01/03/2022 15:06

Is this the style of neckline you're looking for @tradition:

I think this is more like what you're looking for but the length of the skirt doesn't meet your requirements:

This might work in a slightly lighter colour (but not one that will clash with the bridal party).

Something like this might make you very hot if it's a destination wedding as you say:

mrschocolatte · 01/03/2022 15:29

Do you have a colour/price in mind?

I saw this today as I was looking for dresses for a special event and thought it was lovely.

John Lewis

I also love this but not quite what you were looking for!

Oh just saw you mentioned hot weather. Maybe this?

Thanks for the comments and advice. And yes I really don't want to look bridal or bridesmaidesy 😳 which is why I haven't found anything as yet. Thought multicoloured or like blue shades.

I have some physical health issues which is one if the reasons I want to cover legs so hence the maxi length. I also want to cover tops if arms. But of course it will be hot so not long sleeved.

I like the Andriana Papel and Monsoon dresses so will look more closely at those. Many years ago I wore a Cameron Blake dress to a destination wedding but can't seem to find that designer in UK.

Love the shape of this one. But concerned I'd be too hot.

Like this too, in lighter colour and shorter sleeves. Anyone know anything about the company JJs House?

OP posts:
GettingStuffed · 02/03/2022 18:37

JJ's house is a Chinese company. DD's friend bought her bridesmaid's dresses there. Every single one had to be altered even though they had supplied measurements and even then the proportions were all wrong.

tradition · 19/04/2022 18:53

Thought I'd update. I have bought (and returned) about 8 different dresses. This is my favourite so far from Coast. But not sure about colour (although it's darker grey in reality). But what colour accessories would you suggest?

It's a lovely dress but I think the colour too closely aligns it to the bridal party. I've been to a wedding where the bride wore oyster and smother where the bridesmaids wore dove grey
