Help! Brow and lash disasters

Hello wise ones. So recently I decided to make a bit more of an effort, having completely let myself go over the past two years mostly on account of stress and tiredness like many people. I’m 41 and average height / build / skin etc.

First I thought I’d try wearing lashes. So I bought a few different types. But for love nor money I cannot get them to work. I tried the magnetic ones but you need more of the eyeliner than I like wearing… mostly as it has to be thick enough along the centre of the lashline to hide the little magnets. Then I tried the MAC ones with MAC duo glue and I cannot get them to stick! I’ve watched videos, let them go tacky etc… but how on Earth do you get them on… at an angle. And which ones can I get for a more natural look? There are hundreds.

Then the brows. Omg the brows. Like many people my age I have overplucked brows from my twenties but they are dark, and they’re a decent shape. Just not much of them. I want to try to brush the hairs upwards to create a bit more volume… I’ve tried Anastasia brow freeze and the wax pencil but within five mins the hair just goes back to pointing along the ridge of the brow again and I’m left with a waxy mess. How do you get these stubborn hairs to stay in place… pointing up??? And then filling them. Ffs. I tried the pomade and as soon as I brushed it out it smudged. I think I also went a shade too dark. Problem is to shape the ends is really hard as I have so little hair there and it just looks like a patchy mess.

Please help oh wise ones. What are your tips and what can I do???

Go and get both professionally done.

SonicBroom · 28/02/2022 23:06

But aren’t lash extensions damaging over a long period? Also I really don’t like so many of the micro blading looks on brows, I’ve seen so many disasters. What do I even ask for?

Lashes - wait until the glue goes tacky, about 30 seconds before applying

Brows - Schwarzkopf Got 2 Be Glued hair glue, sounds crazy but keeps my brows in place all day. I think they do an actual brow gel now but not tried it to compare.

Oh and for natural lashes, Arden Demi Whispies. The best Grin

Thank you apple! I do wait until it goes tacky but can’t seem to get them on… the ends just come straight off?

LVL lashes is a tint and curl. HD brows is a shape and tint. Most salons do a deal if you book to have both at once. Just need patch test in advance. Very recommended.

A lash glue pen is also good, you apply it like liner - it's clear - and the attach the lash directly to the glue. I find it less faffy for beginners and you can also use the pen to touch up and add extra glue if the ends pop off

I’ve had lvl before and didn’t feel like it made much difference, I’d like the extra length really if I can without looking like a drag Queen!

To keep my very unruly brows in place I use pears soap on an old wetted mascara wand. Works 100%.

I use Huda Beauty lashes. I use these ones:

hudabeauty.com/en_GB/false-lashes/faux-mink-lash---farah-12-HB00049.html

But they're very full.

I think these Huda Beauty lashes would be better for you. More natural and come in 4 sections so you can glue each one where you want it without having to worry about the whole strip at once.

hudabeauty.com/en_GB/false-lashes/eazy-lash---harmony-17-HB00053.html

I use Revlon eyelash glue in black. That's the best one I find.

Also a tip for you if you ha e black eyeliner. When I put my lashes on, I get My eyeliner on, I put it under my top eyelashes. I use the Maybelline eyeliner in the pot with the brush for that.

PinkButtercups · 28/02/2022 23:29

Forgot to add when I add glue I just blow on the eyelids slightly for about 10 seconds before applying. Apply with tweezers. It's much easier.

Eyelashes not eyelids

MarmiteCoriander · 28/02/2022 23:35

Have you ever had a lash lift and tint in a salon? Its a perm for your lashes with a tint. Mine looked like I was wearing false lashes- but they were just my own! No issues with pulling out your own lashes with the glue like when you were false lashes. Looked great for weeks with far less upkeep that having lashes glued on.

RacheyCat · 01/03/2022 10:16

Glossier Boy Brow. Comes in clear and brown.

Topbird29 · 01/03/2022 10:33

Brows - once you have added any colour you want, just put a bit of clear mascara over to hold in place. I am currently just adding a tiny bit of colour with glossier brow boy in brown (as eyebrow hairs getting lighter /grey), but I don't like the overly done look some brows have, so am light with the product!

TGIFbishes · 01/03/2022 10:45

Lashes - lvl or extensions

Brows - shape, tint, laminate

Lagarthatheviking · 01/03/2022 13:01

Lashes-revitalash
Eyebrows- visit Benefit counter, I also over plucked in 90s and love goof proof pencil, gimme brow and 24 hour brow setter( use all three together)

Kjr33 · 01/03/2022 16:18

Lvl (lash lift and tint) and a brow shape and tint at a salon too.
For make up glossier boy brow is pretty foolproof (I think elf do a dupe) and try the individual false lashes for a more natural look. They come in little groups of three lashes and are easy to stick on.

UnconditionalSurrender · 01/03/2022 16:23

Lash growth serum. I found uklash better than revitalash and cheaper and didn't dye my eyeline brown. Then get a lash tint.
You can get a eyebrow growth serum which doesn't get all the volume back but helps a bit.
I am using Aldis brow gel and brow liner which I love.

happyrainydays · 01/03/2022 17:56

Try a brow lamination. It's exactly what you've described you want.

BlondeDogLady · 01/03/2022 18:00

I had a lash lift and tint. I've had it twice now, but sadly for me, it didn't last more than a week. I also tried the lash serum, which did make my lashes grow, but they grew in different directions, so it just looked stupid!

I got magnetic lashes from Amazon, where the magnetic strip is painted on with a tiny thin brush. That works really well, but, as I'm older and have partially hooded eyelids, it's a nightmare to get on, because the top of my lid sticks to the magnetic strip before it dries. What a sticky mess! I'm seriously thinking about getting them done professionally, especially before our next holiday.

I'm thinking of getting powder brows as well.

SonicBroom · 01/03/2022 21:05

These are great suggestions thanks everyone. I’ve had LVL but like pp above it didn’t last long… my lashes are still v dark but fairly short so shape didn’t last. I’ve used revitalash in past and it was great but you have to keep up don’t you … and it’s expensive!! I think the brows are more of a problem than the lashes, grateful for the suggestions and annoyed I didn’t ask before spending £££ on Anastasia!!

Eyebrows - cheap eyebrow mascara from Collection. I don't like the slug eyebrow look at all, this gives more of a Delevingne. Doesn't smudge and once it dries the hairs don't move.

I've tried all kinds of pencils, powders, pomades, gels but this one has never gone wrong for me
