Are handbags still a thing?

Emerging from the baby/toddler backpack years and would like to buy myself a bag to carry my keys, phone, purse etc in. Not sure what styles are in fashion at the moment so I tried to have a nosey at what others are carrying on the school run. Trouble is literally no one had a bag with them! No one at all! Are bags out? Where do you put your stuff? I was thinking of a smallish colourful shoulder bag type?? Am so out of touch with style post kids! Any pointers appreciated!

Small cross-body bags are quite trendy where I am. I recently got a leather one just big enough for purse, keys, phone and a few other essentials.

On the school run I don't bring a bag, I just put my keys and phone in my pocket.

I like fiorelli bags though.

I don't take a bag on the school run unless I'm going somewhere straight after.
I don't think handbags will ever go out of fashion. I use crossbody bags personally as I find them the most comfortable to wear and most practical

I don't always have a bag on the school run as I only live a 5 minute walk away so sometimes just grab my keys. But bags are definitely still a thing! I think fewer people are bothering to carry cash/purses since Covid happened and bags have shrunk as a consequence (that's my theory anyway). Lots of little cross body/camera bags around at the moment.

Not sure the school run is the best place to nosey at handbags - people either live nearby and in winter have phone/keys in pockets or have come in a car and any wider stuff is there in the car. Here the only bags are those goimg to the park post school and tend to be slouchy leather totes for water hottles, snacks etc. But the same people may have smaller bags for going out for drinks etc. I’m a big purse person so have half moon / structured leather cross body for when out on my own or a slouchy leather tote when with the kids.

What "stuff" do you need for the school run? I never took a bag when taking DD to and from school.

Nowadays I don't usually carry a purse with me. I have my phone in a phone case which also holds my debit card and a few notes as I don't like to be completely cash free. And at this time of year I wear a jacket with pockets big enough and secure enough to put my phone in.

I carry a much smaller bag now than pre-Covid - a leather cross body Jaegar one via M&S. For being in work I have a tote bag with my laptop and charger, bottle of water etc on top.

In my bag are: cardholder, beanie hat, umbrella, lipstick, AirPods case, pen, face masks (still mandatory here) and painkillers. I put my keys in one coat pocket and my phone in the other, and tend to use Apple Pay for most things.

I use small ish cross-body bags, different colours for season, but it has to fit my kindle, which I take wherever I go. I use a smaller cross-body bag for evenings out, similar to the Pom bags (no kindle!). I should probably invest in a smaller purse, though I like the idea of using a phone case for cards.

I have just bought this from River Island. I like this style of bag when out with dc as it goes across the body and my hands are still free to hold theirs.
