Please help- dry peeling skin under eye, what can I put on it?

For the past few weeks the skin under one of my eyes has been really dry to the extent that it's peeling off and the remaining skin is all puckered (very attractive!). Problem is, if I put any moisturiser on that area it reacts immediately and goes all red and puffy. Can anyone recommend a very gentle cream I could use that won't make my skin react? I have tried E45 already. Thanks.

Simple vaseline? That worked for me. It's shiny but better that for a few days than the peeling.

cardboardbox24 · 28/02/2022 20:03

@bedheadedzombie normally that works but not this time!

Weak hydrocortisone?
Aveeno?

BusterGonad · 01/03/2022 08:37

Bepanthen nappy rash cream. It has skin healing ingredients and has always sorted my eyes out when they're red raw. It's very greasy. Just use a dap in the day but lots at night.

I second this, every year in winter the skin around my lips all starts cracking and flaking and bleeding until I look like a clown and I use bepanthen for it, it works better than anything else I've used(a lot over the years)
BusterGonad · 01/03/2022 10:12

It's definitely got magical qualities.

Is it itchy? I’d try feeding later after layer of hyaluronic and then squalene. And at night some weleda calendula. If it’s itchy, go to the pharmacist for something medicated!

Bloodyshittystorms · 01/03/2022 11:57

8 hour cream?

QuizzicalEyebrows · 01/03/2022 13:11

Vaseline

smorgasbords · 01/03/2022 14:10

Hydrocortisone. I use it for this exact reason. Can’t use it very often but it works almost instantly, it’s amazing stuff.

DSGR · 01/03/2022 18:17

Epiderm.. very gentle and I find it clears up all sorts of things like this. You want the tub ointment

cardboardbox24 · 01/03/2022 19:23

Thanks everyone. It's not itchy, just irritated and sore. I'll work my way through the list of possibilities!

I’ve got exactly the same thing- get it periodically and it’s annoying.

I use a combo of
Dr Jart Cicapair Tiger Re Pair cream and also Dr Jart water serum, it does help!

TheLoupGarou · 01/03/2022 19:37

Dermol?

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 01/03/2022 19:38

How old are you? Is the skin sun damaged?

Soontobe60 · 01/03/2022 19:41

I have this - tried all sorts, but ended up with steroid cream from the doctor and it’s cleared it up. Now I bathe my eyes in warm water every night, use drops for Dry Eye, and moisturise with Aveena baby moisturiser.

cardboardbox24 · 01/03/2022 20:06

@TheLoupGarou tried Dermol, made it worse!
@UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea
I'm 41, no sun damage

Probably going to get dragged over coals for this, but the neutrogena concentrated hand cream is a miracle worker for my face in the winter. Non-greasy and soaks in quickly. I’ve used it for years.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 01/03/2022 20:19

I asked about sun damage because I had a patch on my face just like you described. Was prescribed this cream. It's been brilliant.

CandleRose · 01/03/2022 20:26

My DD was recommended to use Cetraben for exactly this. It worked really well and didn't irritate at all and cleared up the dry flaky under eye patches (and other very irritated excema areas like inside her elbows). It's very gentle and does not irritate or itch, unlike some other brands.

MalfunctioningRobot · 01/03/2022 20:33

E45 cream works for me when I have dry skin round my eyes.

Innatenvi · 01/03/2022 23:51

I use Oilatum Junior cream on my face morning and night and my skin has never been better or more hydrated.

minipie · 01/03/2022 23:55

Watching. I have this for the first time ever. Also 41. Very tedious!

BusterGonad · 02/03/2022 09:31

I really think that the bepanthen would do the trick. It's made to HEAL skin. It's amazing stuff.
