Trainers advice

Looking for advice. I'm trying to be more sustainable with fashion choices. Mainly buy second hand these days. I tend to get through a pair of converse every 1-2 years and a pair of toms a year. Wondering if there are a better trainers/slip ins that look stylish that might have more longevity for spring summer.

Recommendations welcome

I have some Adidas Superstars that I bought from a charity shop that feel like they'll last for years. I also have some Onitsuka Tigers that I've had for a few years and have worn loads and are still in v good condition.

Like you I love Toms but they don't last that long sadly!

Another recommendation for Onitsuka Tigers. I have the Mexico 66's. Really comfortable and last well.

@harrumphs toms really are rubbish for longevity I'm on my second pair not sure what I'll replace them with but won't buy another pair.

I'll check out superstars. Also just spotted Stan Smiths which look similar.

Never heard of tigers so I will check them out.

Onitsuka Tigers are what ASICS were originally, so you'll recognise the logo / pattern!

Another vote for Onitsuka tigers.

My pair are very very well worn and the leather still look great. Also (IMO) quite timeless looking so won't be hugely out of fashion at some point.

Stan Smiths last for years. I got a pair from a charity shop 4 years ago that were already a bit beaten up and they're still going strong. Just bought a black pair for winter I love them.

Justdoingthisnow · 26/02/2022 18:47

@harrumphs ah ok I know ASICS as I always get those as my running shoes not that I've been running for a while!

@User7853367 I've seen a pair of Stan smiths locally in quite good condition I might snap them up.

@Justdoingthisnow I would, see how you get on with them. They're really comfortable

DrWhoNowww · 26/02/2022 22:47

Can’t really help with trainers but I have a pair of leather toms that are coming up to 6 years old and have been worn every summer since I bought them - they’ll have to be replaced this year as the sole has started to go but I thought they’d lasted really well.

Justdoingthisnow · 27/02/2022 09:37

@DrWhoNowww thanks for that I'll check out leather toms if they are better the canvas ones are just awful for longevity.
