Braving S&B to ask what people think of these styles

I'm short and fat, so to some extent, nothing is flattering. But do these sorts of styles make things worse?

Also, I think peri is causing unpredictable bloating so fitted stuff is out.

I don't hate the ASOS link. It's not quite there, but there is something reminiscent of Blair Waldorf and her cape coats about it, and I always thought that was such a chic look.

The second link, I am not fond of, even the colour feels drab to me.

They make everyone bar beanpoles make boxy. I like them but the resulting look, plus the fact that they don't keep you warm, makes them a no from me.

I like the aesthetic of the first one but not sure it would work on someone who isn’t tall, skinny and modelesque.

I’m not a fan of the second one at all (sorry!)

Thanks
The rationale behind it is...I don't want to keep on with mostly wearing sweatshirts but my size and shape make other stuff quite hard to wear, so shirts won't button property because of my fat stomach, etc

I have a neighbour who is similar shape and size and she looks nice in the poncho style stuff.

With boxy, it's like I could be any size under there, if that makes sense.

I was using that shirt as an example as I can't get near a small.....but I really like the colour and generally like a muted blue or green.

So to be clearer, I'm thinking - does an overweight person look worse in a poncho style garment?

I'm genuinely keen to know a majority view.

I recently bought two tops I didn't even like - cheap, cotton, in the sales - and I got compliments on them! I don't like patterns on me but apparently others do. A woman in a bar, who honestly might have been half my age, asked me where I bought one of them!

Mum and sis were gushing over them, they are slim and normally never comment on my clothes.

I think poncho styles rely on posture to look good. I have a chunky, fairly short colleague who looks great in them as she has the posture of an ex-dancer. On tall but round shouldered me, it looks like I've slung an old blanket around my shoulder's.

Thanks peaky

That's reminded me of one thing I do have - good posture!
