Boden's summer dresses - errrr!

Is this just me?

Never before have they all been so garish and plain weird.

The only ones that aren't, are the boring wrap over styles which are the same every year.

I can't get my head around their demography now.
I used to fit it, spot -on.
Middle aged, middle class, like my clothes quite plain but sometimes with a slightly quirky 'something' .
What's gone wrong?

I agree. They’re a bit much.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 21/02/2022 08:45

I have long been a Boden fan, and there was a time when I would love pretty much everything in their new collections. I now find far fewer things I want to buy (probably better for the wallet!). I can't quite put my finger on what I don't like now - I do buy the prints but there just don't seem to be many I like any more.

I quite like them! Although I can hear Meryl Streep in my head going “Florals for Spring? Groundbreaking

I have a lot of old boden in my wardrobe which i still love and i tend to wear if i want to look good. The current stuff has too many man made fibres and is either garish or plain. as one of the other posters said there are none of the lovely unexpected little tweaks that made them lovely...edging on the vest tops for example. Thankfully i have bought a lot 5+ years ago and it wears well.

dreamingofsun · 21/02/2022 09:34

sorry forgot....i think they are trying to go for the younger crowd now. Maybe they think they will buy more than us older ones?

RainingYetAgain · 21/02/2022 09:38

I don't bother with Boden. The couple of things I ordered didn't fit well, looked terrible and the fabric was poor. Everything I see on the "swears by" emails looks ugly and shapeless.

OinkyO · 21/02/2022 09:54

Just had a look. Some of it's ok but there is far too much choice of patterned/flowery dresses. No one needs that much choice they all start to look the same.

I’m a younger one and don’t like it either! I did order some stuff last week, but none of it was patterned.
BoodleBug51 · 21/02/2022 11:25

I used to get the bulk of my work wardrobe from there, but the last few things I've ordered are such a weird shape especially the dresses. And cheap cotton that goes mis-shapen after several washes.

I've migrated to White Stuff.

There are some that I totally adore, the embroidered lady and for one but the prices, eyewatering. !!

GettingStuffed · 21/02/2022 11:47

Kaftan not lady.

ExConstance · 21/02/2022 11:55

The dresses are a bit much, you would need several as once seen never forgotten. In John Lewis at Cheltenham they sell Boden along side the other makes and in the flesh the quality compares quite well, much better than Hush for example. I have not bought much from them for ages but treated myself to the green print popover top and some pink flat suede slingbacks here they arrived yesterday and I'm really pleased with both. I'll wear them with a Massimo Dutti denim skirt. There are some nice bits and pieces but all very expensive even with discounts. I like the swimwear but got my new bikini from M&S for about half the price.

JinglingHellsBells · 21/02/2022 12:08

The bulk of my wardrobe used to be Boden (and still is) but there are fewer and fewer items I like. It's all a bit 'in your face' or too staid (plain navy or black.)

I'm migrating a little to J Lewis and the And/Or range

Some of them are nice

LookItsMeAgain · 21/02/2022 12:44

It's like the 1970's patterns are coming back....they were bad enough in the 1970's so I don't want to see them again.
They were awful in the 1970's.

CrimbleCrumble1 · 21/02/2022 13:57

They look like normal print dresses to me.
