I just bought a dress that reeks of BO. I've washed it 4-5 times but the arm pits are really smelly EnvySad
I've also tried spraying febreze but I can still smell it!

Any other tips? I don't really want to wear this dress anymore but don't think I can resell it if it still stinks!!!

This might help

I'm sure there would be dome vinegar based recipe for perspiration smells on fabric but I wouldn't know the recipe.

Apparently professional costumers spray vodka on vintage clothes for this.

littlese · 20/02/2022 08:17

Oh brilliant, I will give it a try! Thank you!

Oh, and I've put smelly sports garments in the freezer before. It didn't work forever, but it worked. You have to kill the bacteria.

Iwishiwereamillionaire · 20/02/2022 19:06

I spray neat white vinegar on the clothes (saturate the area) and leave for an hour or overnight and then wash with bio washing powder and an antibacterial rinse or I’ve found halo sportswash is brilliant.

Freebus · 20/02/2022 19:19

I use neat white vinegar . If its ever good weather again, line dry it outside.

I've also heard the neat (unflavoured) vodka tip

RobertaFirmino · 20/02/2022 19:22

I buy and sell a lot of vintage clothes and I spray everything with white vinegar and leave overnight, before putting in the wash the next day. It gets rid of all smells, even that 'vintage' smell you get. I've never found anything more effective so don't waste good vodka!

Crimesean · 20/02/2022 19:24

If you can, hot wash it on 90°. If that's not possible, do as PPs have suggested with white vinegar. Also make sure you're using a biological washing powder, non bio is useless on sweat.

Theunamedcat · 20/02/2022 19:27

Hot iron the armpits (use an anti scorch cloth and iron inside) usually kills the bacteria my dd has some honking pits she says I'm the only one that gets them really clean im just the only one who irons!

Try soaking in Dettol laundry for a few hours/overnight. Works on my smelly gym kit

littlese · 20/02/2022 23:03

Thank you all, will try the white vinegar truck! Unfortunately we haven't got bio washing powder as both our kids have eczema so we use non bio for everything!

Use a sports wash or dettol laundry in wash.. should get all the smell out. Sports wash liquid sold in tesco
