What do you think ?

I'm more impressed with the approach to dressing and skin care than the actual styles/outfits - if we have to stereotype an entire culture (i am presuming we are referring to the typical, Parisian thing?)

So yeh, the natural hair, seems many French women aren't afraid of soft curls and waves and a bit of windblown dishevellement...which always looks far lovelier to me than hair that has been beaten down or teased into perfectly symmetrical curls.

I admire their approach to skin care and ageing - more the attitude than the reality perhaps Grin but i love the way older french women 'carry' themselves.

So it's all a sort of essence than something tangible.
Other than that, I am not fond of the whole trench coat and ballet flats thing, even when they shake it up with trainers. I find a lot of the typical Parisian traditional wardrobe stuff a bit boring. I much prefer the expressive vibe of UK styles, personally.

What IS French style?
I know lots of French people, some dress up, some dress down, much like here in my circle of friends.

GrendelsGrandma · 19/02/2022 14:00

As far as I can see, they don't eat much and avoid patterns. Doesn't sound that fun

Deepestgreen · 19/02/2022 14:09

French women love neutrals and it seems to me that the typical French complexion (dark hair, brown eyes) looks good in most neutrals. For me I need more colour to create contrast with my less sharply contrasting pinkish pale complexion and green eyes which neutrals fail to highlight. So I love the ease and wearability of a neutral outfit but it doesn’t necessarily work for a Brit like me.

I don't know what French style is, but you can always spot french towels on the beach or at the side of the pool!

duvetdayforeveryone · 19/02/2022 14:34

A glass of wine in one hand and a slice of baguette with brie in the other... yes, I can get on board with the French Grin

TabithaTittlemouse · 19/02/2022 14:34

I like the simplicity.

MarshaBradyo · 19/02/2022 14:35

How are you defining it?

Mercurial123 · 19/02/2022 14:59

It's a bit of a dull way to dress without much individuality. However, I do like the buying good quality clothing and not fast fashion or keep purchasing stuff.

polexiaaphrodesia · 19/02/2022 15:04

I am really curious to find out what French towels look like @justkeeppedaling!
I really love the French look, the simplicity, focus on quality rather than quantity and also the dishevelled hair! I follow a few French influences on Instagram and really like how they look casual but chic without being overdone.

blublub · 19/02/2022 15:25

Boring. I like English style tbh. Quirky and individual is more my thing than arbitrary style rules.

Floisme · 19/02/2022 16:22

I think of it as an idea more than anything else. In real life, all French people don't dress that way any more than all British people dress like Vivienne Westwood. Done well I associate it with looking effortless and cool and done badly it can look a bit dull, in the same way that I think badly done eccentricity can be irritating.

Could you post their @ please? I really like this style, but am clueless myself so need some inspiration!

Oh I love french style! Am definitely intrigued to find out what french beach towels look like, too!

polexiaaphrodesia · 19/02/2022 16:42

@ChameFangeNail I follow @instapompom and @mmequeenb (among others!)

ChameFangeNail · 19/02/2022 16:44

Fab thanks! Will check them out.

There’s the aesthetic of French style (basically everything in Sezane) and then there’s what French women actually wear which, going by what I’ve seen in Paris, is in the main black puffers, black leggings, black trainers.

Aderyn21 · 21/02/2022 11:59

I think if you are on a tight budget it's easier to look good when you stick to simple, non patterned clothes - with cheaper clothes the patterns aren't always matched up (a personal bugbear of mine) and the colours are often nearly but not quite right.
So in that sense I do like 'French' style. And it's easy for people who aren't naturally stylish or don't have the headspace to think about fashion, to still look put together and professional.
But I do really love to see beautiful bright quirky style so if that's 'British' then I think I preferred that.
