Toilet in spanx

Plump82 · 16/02/2022 17:38

I have a special birthday coming up and have found the perfect dress for the celebrations however I need to wear spanx.
I was considering the style that come right up to your bra and then has straps over your shoulders but the thought just occurred to me, how do you go to the toilet without completing stripping off!?!

You have to strip off. I have a pair of these that are 10+ years old (no longer fit!) and there is a little slit in the crotch, presumably for you to wee out of. But you’d need excellent aim and control. Never attempted it.

Scottishflower65 · 16/02/2022 17:41

Can’t you pull the gusset over to one side?

LadyEloise1 · 16/02/2022 17:47

@WellTidy ".....Never attempted it."

The ones Ive seen are also shorts but I suppose I could get one like a swimsuit.
I didn't realise they came with a slit!! Imagine that after a few drinks!

I don’t know if the currently sold ones come with a slit, but honestly, it wouldn’t be worth the risk! I Don’t think the slit was large enough k pull to one side to be honest, but it’s a while since I wore them. For some reason, I was wearing them when I was a size ten!

FGS don't try to pee through the slit! I attempted it once at a wedding and got it soaked. Wrestled it off and went commando. The worst part was that the Spanx wouldn't fit in my little clutch bag so I had to bin them!

bigdecisionstomake · 16/02/2022 17:58

I got some spanx for a party I went to recently, the ones that come up to the bottom of your bra. They gave me an amazing shape and I was over the moon with them until I went to the loo for the first time.

There was no other option but to wriggle them down and then up again and rearrange them accordingly. It was a really uncomfortable experience and took ages. The only saving grace was the latex strip at the top that held them up didn't seem to mind being moved around.

I emailed the company and suggested they think about poppers on the crotch in future and also left that feedback on the John Lewis website (where I bought them from).

ToffeeForEveryone · 16/02/2022 17:59

Depends on the dress. You can sometimes slip the spanks straps off the shoulders and you don't have to take off the full dress.

Plan for longer loo breaks :D

roses2 · 16/02/2022 18:09

I've got a spank suit that has a hole in for going to the toilet. Could you buy a version like that?

Dilbertian · 16/02/2022 18:13

I find the ribs-to-knees Spanx relatively easy to pull down, as long as I'm not sweaty.

In fact, putting them back on after a loo trip is easier than putting them on in the first place. The trick is not to pull them down and pull them back up again, but to peel them down like you peel a banana. Not all the way, you don't want to turn the thighs completely inside out. To put them back on again only drag them as far as the top of your thighs, then unroll the top part upwards. There's a bit of wiggling and jiggling to get them past the bum.

My tights always slip down when I wear them over Spanx, and a tip I had from here also helps re the toilet trips: wear the Spanx over the tights.

(I've managed to pee through the split, but am never confident about it, so I don't bother trying any more.)

Peachy7 · 16/02/2022 18:16

I've never had any problems peeing through the split, and worn them when extremely drink

TheMildManneredMilitant · 16/02/2022 18:59

Have you tried one of the shaper slips instead? I prefer them over the mega knickers and no need to strip off

Plump82 · 17/02/2022 08:39

The dress come to below my knees and also has full sleeves so no chance of slipping straps off.

@themildmanneredmilitant I hadnt noticed any slips but I'll look for them as that would be much easier.

Also why is Spanx SO expensive!!!

makingitalladdup · 17/02/2022 08:52

It has an slit at the crotch but never been brave enough to try it 😁

I used to wear Spanx all the time and managed to perfect the 'peeing through the slit' manoeuvre without getting them wet (involved leaning forward a little 🤣) but it feels weird weeing while your bum/legs are covered

Here speaks the wise voice of experience 🤣

Sorry @PinotPony, you must have been gutted about having to chuck them

StarlightLady · 17/02/2022 16:25

There are better alternatives out there. Sometimes I think the whole Spanx thing was created by over protective mothers to keep their daughter's boyfriends out rather than their tummies in.

Try a control slip

www.marksandspencer.com/firm-control-sheer-shaping-full-slip/p/clp6

You can wear your own bra and go for a wee without having to prep-book the loo for half hour.

StarlightLady · 17/02/2022 16:26

Ahhhh! The link didn't work. Look up M&S control slip. Sorry about that.

🤣🤣🤣 This thread is totally the reason I don’t wear spanx - that and as a menopausal woman I think that I would just get hot and sweaty.
gunnersgold · 17/02/2022 19:10

They have a gusset you pull to the side!

Isntisironic1 · 17/02/2022 19:13

They have a slit to enable you to pee. Not sure what everyone’s fussing about, it’s not hard to aim 😂😂

Trendytrousers · 17/02/2022 19:21

The slit is quite big if you pull it apart…..

Personally I managed to use the slit with a bit of wrangling I (ahem) manually pulled the slit apart and squatted and weed and had no issues. Trust me if those Spanx are doing their job you won’t be ABLE to pull them off and on often without breaking a sweat!
