Skinny jeans that feel lightweight, not thick and heavy

I'm in need of new jeans, skinnies are fine, highwaisted very much preferred. But I've tried on a few (French Connection, M&S) and loads of them feel too thick and heavy compared to my favourites, so my legs feel a bit suffocated!

Really for day-to-day I want the material to be fairly lightweight as I do a fair bit of walking.

My current ones are ancient ones from Gap (soft and skinny, but wearing out) - from when you could actually go instore and try stuff on!
and from Monsoon - Nadine - they are lovely and light but a bit loose cut for my liking. They both seem like actual jean-jeans not jeggings. Prefer a darker wash (indigo sort of colour).

I think I don't really notice which are heavy when trying them on, until I get back into my usual ones, so this might be a difficult ask...

Or even what I should search for - I seem to remember back in the day some would be labelled 'super soft' which seemed to correspond a bit with being more lightweight? Or maybe I imagined that...

Have you thought of açai waterproof jeans? Soft and flexible.

TronDeReplay · 16/02/2022 17:03

Never heard of them - would assume waterproof meant some sort of non-breathable coating! But I'll have a look - thanks!

Try Uniqlo. Lots of theirs are thinner denim.

JustCleaningtheBBQ · 16/02/2022 17:07

Molly j egging she from River Island are great. Lightweight. Mine sit on the waist but they may do a higher waist version. Just brought out a bum lift pair too, but I couldn't tell the difference

Jeggings

TheYearOfSmallThings · 16/02/2022 17:11

H&M, definitely. I can't get my head around their names and styles, but they use lots of lightweight denim.

Shallysally · 16/02/2022 17:11

My DD buys hers from Primark. They have different lengths and have recently added belt loops to them.

They are fairly lightweight, definitely not heavy denim.

Last time I tried on jeans in H&M I swore never again! A bewildering array and everything about 2 sizes smaller than the label would suggest!!

TronDeReplay · 16/02/2022 17:12

Uniqlo do jeggings that look v much like skinny jeans. I had them in 3 colours post partum when I wanted soft, comfy bottoms that still looked presentable outside the house. Plus I did tons of walking (=pram pushing) in them

bluepeacock · 16/02/2022 17:15

Have you tried M&S skinny jeggings? I'm no M&S fan but someone suggested them on here and I ordered a pair in washed grey - OMG they are soooo comfy, stretchy and lightweight. Make a slightly smarter alternative to the running leggings I always wear and they were only about £15!

RaininSummer · 16/02/2022 17:17

Dorothy Perkins jeans are nice and lightweight.

LadyEloise1 · 16/02/2022 17:22

M&S jeggings are great.

I agree, it is head-wrecking, and you have to try everything in 3 sizes because you may be a 10 in one style and a 14 in another. I just grit my teeth and keep trying them on until I find a good pair. Then I buy 3, but I try them all on because despite the label, they may not actually be the same size.

I hate buying jeans.

itsoveritshard · 16/02/2022 17:29

Dorothy Perkins "Frankie" lightweight, really stretchy and don't go all baggy at the bum and knees.

LateMumma · 16/02/2022 17:32

I love matalan jeggings, Rosie I think the style is called. They cost less than £15, have a high waist and wash and wear brilliantly.

womaninatightspot · 16/02/2022 17:35

My favourite skinny jeans come from Tesco, black and high waisted I think they were 25 quid but lasted ages. Gutted as they don't have my size currently I bought a 12 long (next size down) as dieting anyway.

pawpaws2022 · 16/02/2022 17:36

M&S skinny jeggings
Their Harper jeans are nice too and the magic skinnies

HelloCanYouHearMe · 16/02/2022 19:36

I'm also an owner of the Molly Jegging from RI and they are pretty awesome and lightweight

Imissmoominmama · 16/02/2022 19:41

BAM- bamboo jeans!

SpamIAm · 16/02/2022 20:27

H&M "fixed" their sizing a few years ago so you should only need to go up a size in their jeans now. Maybe. I agree they're a good lightweight option. They generally have elastane in which is possibly what's giving you that lightweight feeling that you won't get with some more expensive pure denim.

TronDeReplay · 19/02/2022 15:03

Looked through Uniqlo jeans, decided to choose a couple of pairs, then see it's £2.95 for returns! No shop anywhere near here. What a pain. I'll try some of the other ones mentioned.

Thought I'd also try getting Gap ones again seeing as some of my others are from there (noticeably lighter feeling than M&S Ivy etc) but they only ever seem to have one or two sizes - if not none at all - in each colour.

Paying a fortune for returns - Welcome to our world in Ireland. Sad

You really should try the M&S jeggings.
They are really light.
