everybodystalking · 14/02/2022 20:40

Size 16-18 apple
my gorgeous daughters look amazing (not apples!!)
I'm in love with the idea......should I step away from the dungarees in case I lood pregnant at 50?? Or can i rock them in my own unique way?

And if it's a yes....style ideas from you lovely people who know how to dress (unlike me...iniform for work and jeans every day for home)

Yes! I’m wearing mine right now and waiting for another pair to come back into stock.
I’m mid 40s and wear mid with slim fit plain tops underneath and either DM boots or Air force ones. I wear Lucy and Yak but have a friend who is big into Run and Fly and all the patterns. My absolute faves are my washed black Atlas and would suggest that they are a safe pair to start with

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 15/02/2022 12:00

I’m 57 size 16, and have several pairs.

They don’t dig in like waistbands.

DivorcedAndDelighted · 15/02/2022 12:25

Depends what look you are after. If you want honest opinions, dungarees on anyone other than skinny youngsters always strike me as a firm statement that the wearer is not interested in looking sexy to men. Which is not a problem if that's how you feel! That may reveal my age or bad attitude, of course Grin I've looked through the Lucy & Yak range..... Comfy but not at all sexy.... I'm an outdoorsy person, not a fashion fan, so while I'd wear them for gardening, I wouldn't for outside the house.

wildthingsinthenight · 15/02/2022 15:41

Go for it! I love mine

Thoosa · 15/02/2022 15:42

Try some on.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 15/02/2022 15:42

I don’t want to be sexy to men! I’m 58. I’ve got enough keeping up with Dh!

Figgygal · 15/02/2022 15:47

Im 40 have denim ones from fatface they are the best things ever

kitcat15 · 15/02/2022 15:52

Of course you can! I'm 57 .....choose ones that flatter your figure ...I'm quite slight ....I wear denim ones from M&S from the kids range as they are more fitted .....I also have more dressy ones ...I bought some from Boden yesterday

balalake · 15/02/2022 18:31

If it is colourful and not denim, it can look really good.

VerveClique · 15/02/2022 18:35

Why not!!

Have a little roll in the hems and wear with DMs or similar, or trainers, with chunky socks

Close-ish fitting top underneath, you may need to experiment with necklines

Duster coat/chunky cardi over the top

Cool earrings, funky rings.

everybodystalking · 15/02/2022 19:22

love the reponses.....men are not a priority! I dress for me (and also try not to embarrass the teens too much too often).

Off to order some forest green dungarees........and break out of my blue jeans rut.

Go for it. Size 20 waiting on another pair of lucy and yak. Dont give a shit whether its sexy or not its bright and fun.

Ejk1990 · 15/02/2022 19:31

I just got some from Lucy and yak! I'm a size 18 and an apple, I think I look great haha. I love them!

Just ordered some blue ones haha

Reluctantadult · 15/02/2022 19:34

I got some blue cord ones the other day, I looove them but I'm struggling what to wear them with. Short or long sleeve tees is the obvious one but I'm too cold a person for just that at the mo. Any suggestions for something warmer over or, even better, under?

ExhaustedMumma · 15/02/2022 19:40

Check out WearsMyMoney (blog or on Instagram) she’s often recommending dungarees and wears them well in her late 40s. Some really nice styles out there.
I have a very comfy black Jersey pair from Turtle Dove London. I wear them with stripes and white trainers. They also do awesome kids and babies versions.

Teddybearen · 15/02/2022 21:10

I suspect that dungarees work better on someone with a flat stomach rather than an apple. However I do not have the perfect figure and I know that some things I wear are not100% flattering but I wear them anyway. If I only wore things that really flattered my shape I’d be fairly limited and I think there is joy i knowing and accepting that and wearing things just because we love them. Try some and see what you think

Thoosa · 16/02/2022 16:45

I’ve just gone back to dungarees for the first time in 20 years. One of the best things is that they’re loungewear-level comfortable but also sufficiently smart for zoom (at least in my industry) and popping to the shops. Also more flattering than you think. I’m a 14, sometimes a 16.

Surely most women don't dress themselves to look sexy to men, especially not on a day to day basis. I can't imagine getting ready for work, or to go shopping, and worrying about whether random men would consider me sexy in what I am wearing.
freshcarnation · 16/02/2022 20:59

Mine are from an online place called Jaki. They are lovely

JofraArchersFastestBall · 16/02/2022 21:00

The description of not wanting to look sexy to men has made me immediately buy some more dungarees! I suspect these jazzy L&Y ones will be particularly unsexy 🤷‍♀️

I love dungarees, but sometimes find it difficult to find the right tops/shoes to go with them. Easiest with t shirts and sandals in summer.

Dungarees...dare I?
PangoPurrl · 16/02/2022 22:20

I'm a 14-16 potato shape with bad posture so look pregnant no matter what I wear, age 47. I have 2 pairs of corduroy Lucy and Yaks, one fitted the other loose fit and I love them so much. I wear them with a t-shirt, fine with short or long sleeved, and a fleecy hoodie when cold. They are soooo comfortable and I love how they look, despite usually noticing all of my flaws in everything I wear.
Also, I see sooooo many people wearing them and they're clearly popular with all ages. I do craft fairs as part of my work, and I'm pretty sure I didn't do a single one last year where I didn't have a conversation with at least one fellow wearer about the awesomeness of the Lucy and Yak fit and colours! Best of all was a woman around my age with her mum, both wearing one of the 'busiest' prints and looking fab!

Mercurial123 · 17/02/2022 10:46

Depends how confident you feel. I bought some and whilst they are comfortable I didn't find them flattering.

user1493494961 · 17/02/2022 11:01

I think they're popular because, if you're big, they're very comfy.

Thoosa · 17/02/2022 13:41

@user1493494961

They’re comfy at least at both size 8/10 and 14/16. I’ve tested them. I imagine they’re comfortable at all sizes.

Grin

I suspect you’re not the only one who reacted to that in that way.
