Style & beauty tips for ski holiday

Hello so going skiing for the first time soon. Want to attempt a nicely made up face and sleek hair, not a big red faced pasty with mad hair etc!

Any make up, hair, fashion tips for skiing holiday?!

For the day time? All you need is factor 60 sunscreen. Or a balaclava, depending on the weather.
Hair? The helmet will take care of that.

The only people looking stylish in a ski resort
don’t actually ski Grin

As much hydrating stuff as possible! Heavy duty lip balm, hydrating serum and oil, intense night cream and really good hand cream. Also dry shampoo to help with helmet hair!

Bunce1 · 14/02/2022 13:09

Plait your hair and wear a helmet. Do not NOT wear a helmet. Pop a nice beanie in your pocket with your sunglasses for when you stop.

Very high factor SPF and lip sun-cream too. I like Piz Bun.

I wear-
striped Thermal Base Layer
Sweat shirt- a Nike one
Neck gator- lilac/grey
snow pants- lilac
Jacket-black
helmet-grey
goggles- pink/grey
Leather/Gore-Tex Mittens
Mascara

A coloured lip gloss in your pocket or one of those duo pots that does cheeks and lips.

Heavy duty moisturiser for day and night. It is drying up in the mountains!

Haha! Excellent tip on the dry shampoo.
I understand I’m not going to look super sleek when I’m huffing and puffing around a mountain but there must be some little tricks? Keep seeing pictures of glamorous looking women in ski resorts 🤣🤦‍♀️

Thanks Bunce, plaiting the hair a great idea, super long hair so that should help keep it neat! Cheers for the responses these are great!

Please don't consider not wearing a helmet.
High factor sun screen and lip salve, your face will be covered anyway.
Save the glam for après-ski.

TheFuckingDogs · 14/02/2022 13:40

I absolutely will be wearing a helmet 😊

I just generally look a rosy mess during the day. I think a beanie is a good alternative to a helmet if you stop for lunch in the mountains. Plus maybe nice sunglasses that you can wear instead of the goggles. Lip balm to put on when you stop.

I do have nice skiwear (although no idea if I can still fit into it for this year) which is generally colour coordinated but I don't think most people care.

Hi OP. I live in a Swiss ski resort, was out most of yesterday on the slopes. I would echo a previous poster; those looking flawless are not actually skiing!

If you have long hair (I do), then plait it as suggested otherwise it’s a tangled mess. I wear 2 plaits in fact to minimise tangling at nape of neck.

Don’t wear eye makeup as if it’s very cold/windy, your eyes will water, even with goggles. And make sure your goggles are high enough protection for sunny days. I accidentally took my cloudy day goggles yesterday and my eyes are sore and red today from snow glare.

Use a barrier cream like Elizabeth Arden 8 hour and strong SPF. Plenty of lip balm, reapplied. Take your sunglasses and wear them at lunch/coffee to avoid having to wear your goggles when not skiing (cos you look like a nob!).

Don’t try too hard to be glam on the slopes as it all melts when you sweat, get windswept, cold-bitten etc and it’s even worse than not having bothered at all! And don’t wear jewellery if you can help it; I take off my engagement & wedding rings as they catch on the lining of my gloves.

MadameHeisenberg · 14/02/2022 14:02

Oh and where are you going, by the way? Some places are super-laid back and others are more ‘fashionable’.

LaPampa · 14/02/2022 15:05

I took weleda skin food and a good lip balm at Christmas. Also echo a good facial suncream. I use anti Helios factor 50. Take sunglasses for lunchtime.

We were still wearing face masks on lifts etc so they were main accessory...

LaPampa · 14/02/2022 15:07

Ps - the super glam are not skiing.

I wear little gold Huggie hoops not normal earrings and leave my engagement ring off as it's annoying with the poles / gloves. Get gloves / mittens with glove liners btw. Much easier.

TheFuckingDogs · 14/02/2022 15:08

MadameHeisenberg Thanks. It’s Austria and I do t think mega “fashionable” this is good advice. I’m not super stylish day to day at all anyway but have done some big hikes in UK and have always enjoyed myself more when I’ve got all the little tricks & knacks of walking gear right so it works for me. Assume the same can be done of skiing iyswim, as a complete beginner I just don’t know what to expect! I’m definitely the sort who always immediately puts my head under when swimming so this will probably all go out the window when I’m actually there but decent sunblock, moisturiser and low plaited hair under helmet all sounds great

TheFuckingDogs · 14/02/2022 15:11

And yes masks will still be mandatory there so my face will be covered most of the time 🙈
Cheers for all the advice everyone

Get your lashes tinted before you go so no mascara dripping off frozen lashes!! Also get the tags that go around your wrist and attach to your gloves - not necessarily style but will prevent lost gloves!! High SPF, loads of lip balm with SPF and stay to one colour palette in what you wear and you’ll look like the rest of the skiers! As everyone else says uber stylish are just wafting about and lunching!! For lunch polarised sunglasses and hat to swap goggles and helmet. If you run cold I recommended mitten style gloves and silk liners too. Enjoy!! My ski trip was postponed at Christmas so I’m super jealous!!

TheFuckingDogs · 14/02/2022 16:52

SarBear1980 Tinted lashes!! Amazing tip 😀

I’m in Austria. Most locals have a thing about getting the most of of their ski clothing so are proudly sporting their ski jackets from 1978 still.

But basically your 95% covered. It’s pretty warm and sunny this year so far, so sunglasses for any sitting about outside. And some thinner layers.
( Ds has been running around in garden not in salopettes the last week as it’s toasty in the sun and he’s boiling)

For day to day walking around I just wear jeans and boots.

ethelredonagoodday · 14/02/2022 19:25

Defo, defo sunscreen.
