Hair extensions for thickness

Has anyone done this? Does it work - or will it damage your hair?

I have shoulder length, very fine hair, with some breakage on the top layer. I don't want any more length, but would love to have more hair that I could actually style

Done well, they will be a complete game changer and your hair will look amazing. But, imo they're a bit of a one way street because if you stop having them you'll dislike your own hair even more by comparison. However good the hairdresser, you will lose some natural hair when they come out, so it will look at best thinner, at worst, very damaged. That said, some people are never going to have natural hair they're happy with, and so are prepared to accept the disadvantages of long term extension wearing to get great hair, rather than avoid them for less damaged, but so so, natural hair. There are other, no damage, options like halos and hair pieces that you could try if this puts you off.
