Anyone else choose a different hair stylist every time?

I always find I get the best service the first time i meet a stylist... whenever I've stuck to the same stylist, I find the service deteriorates rapidly!

They always look disappointed when I refuse to book another appointment in, but I just say I phone nearer the time to see who is available.

No way! I consider my relationship with my hairdresser almost as important as my relationship with my partner. I see him every five weeks, he absolutely gets me in terms of what I want, and I am totally comfortable saying if I am not 100% pleased (very rare). After the lockdowns he made sure I was in on the first day of opening. I live in fear of him getting pregnant - hahaha.

I used to go to different hairdressers or stylists. However, currently have one who I really like and does a good cut.

SpikeySmooth · 13/02/2022 21:36

I keep changing because I haven't found one who does my hair completely how I like it. Also, there's quite a high turnover within our local salons.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/02/2022 21:48

Mine owns the salon which is great - no danger of him leaving.

PatchworkElmer · 13/02/2022 21:49

OP, do you go to the same salon but different stylists within it?

Poetrypatty · 13/02/2022 21:54

Surely you would run out of hairdressers to go to in the end though?

ImInStealthMode · 13/02/2022 21:58

I've never had a particular loyalty to a hairdresser, aside from when I was transitioning back from dark red to blonde and had a great colourist.

I often just decide to have it cut on the day and find somewhere in town with a walk-in appointment.

The last few times I've been to the same place as they do great deals on highlights and a cut, but I'm not fussed which stylist I get.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 13/02/2022 22:09

I can totally relate and do this quite a lot HoneyFlowers. I always go to the same salon but swap and change between stylists quite a bit to keep them on their toes and stop them going 'stale' Grin.

De88 · 13/02/2022 22:38

Same! My hair isn't particularly tricky so I don't need someone who knows it well.

dementedpixie · 13/02/2022 22:41

I go to the same one as I like the way she does my highlights and cuts my hair. She also cuts ds's hair as its longer than the usual boy styles and the barber just tries to cut it all off

whatnumber · 13/02/2022 22:46

I seem to do this.
I try to stick to the same one but something always happens to make me want to change:
Prices go up/diff price each time!
No appointments when I need them.
Bad fringe cut.
Hair gets used to the colour and cut so it doesn't look worth the money each time I go.
My hairdresser the only one not wearing a mask when they first opened back up Hmm
I don't want to keep having the same conversation Blush
I don't like going!

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 13/02/2022 22:50

I go to whoever is free on the day and at the time that I can go. If the salon I usually use is booked up then I find a different one that has an appt free.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/02/2022 22:58

This thread is an eye-opener for me - I book my next appointment as I leave! I have a Louise Brooks type bob with a curved fringe and an undercut so it is pretty high maintenance.

DramaAlpaca · 14/02/2022 00:57

I've been going to the same hairdresser for years and consider her a friend. She knows my hair and what works, and she's the salon owner so won't be leaving. I go every six weeks. I'm happy enough for different people to do my highlights but she's the only one I trust to cut it.

ilovesooty · 14/02/2022 01:17

I've been going to my hairdresser for around 40 years.

PrettyBluebells · 14/02/2022 02:13

I changed pretty often, I've been 3 times to my latest one and I like the cut but I'll probably change next time. If I ever find one who doesn't talk inane bollocks every time, I'll probably stay with them forever.

MollyBloomYes · 14/02/2022 02:30

Currently I'm going through different salons never mind stylists trying to find The One. And this is partly because of my shame at attempting to book a different stylist at the same salon, god I did it once and it was like I'd walked in and pooed all over the floor just before the appointment. Even the new stylist was awkward with me.

So far no hairdresser will come close to the absolutely amazing guy I had in a tiny place at my uni town. But as that would now require a six hour return journey to get to him I am reluctantly accepting that I need to try and get over him. He had the same birthday as me and everything, we were clearly meant to be but life can be cruel sometimes

HoneyFlowers · 14/02/2022 09:14

So back story... I got a new hair stylist at 29 and I stuck with her for ten years... She was great at first and over the last four years the haircuts became so bad I was having to sort them out at home. But she would always book in another appointment at the end and I felt rude to say no. In the end she totally messed up my son's hair over and over again and I just had to leave. It felt like I was breaking up a friendship and felt very awkward.

I then found another hairdresser who was great the first three visits and then on the 4th she totally hacked mine and my son's hair so badly I asked for a refund.

So this is why now I don't commit to the same stylist.

Yes I go to the same salon up the road, but choose a different person. Having said that, the last person I saw was great, but will the service deteriorate again??
