Ouch. It’s got to stop. I have sores on my chin and jawline. What can I do? I’ve managed to stop picking my thumbs but my face is a mess. I need a skin pick me up. What do you recommend?

Are you picking spots? That's a recognised condition and there is some NhS advice here:
www.nhs.uk/mental-health/conditions/skin-picking-disorder/
Things that helped me:

  • having my bf hide my magnifying mirror
  • addressing my spots with a Dermatica prescription
  • consistent use of plain moisturisers

I find clearasil pads and then bio oil

If it’s spots try some spot patches to cover them up which might reduce the desire to pick.

I've just posted on the Skin & Me thread as I have just started on this after having acne for 2 years. I also picked and made scars. Can't leave them alone!

It's early days but for the first time in 2 years I'm starting to see an improvement in my skin. If you want to give it a try, my referral code is CAROLINJ54QA for a free first month.

I’m a lifelong acne picker so probably not the best to ask but here are my tips:

  • wear make up (concealer), I pick less when wearing make up as I don’t want to have to re do it
  • avoid mirrors especially those with bright light or where you can get up really close. Absolutely no magnifying mirrors!
  • wear a necklace so you have something else to fiddle with

Thumbs - keep them moisturised so there isn’t dry skin to pick at - I also pick my thumbs.

I chucked my magnifying mirror which helped me. Also, although this was a few years ago, when I had acyrlics I couldn't pick/squeeze anything. They aren't for everyone but if you got extensions or acrylics for a few months it might help break the habit.

Thank you so much for tips! I find it’s worse when I’m anxious & with the heating on - dry skin. Will give some of these tips a go. I wondered about keeping moisturiser close by, too…

Sympathies. I bought some Nip&Fab facial pads which I use and they leave a layer on your skin which I can feel and that discourages me. They have different types so you can pick the one that's right for you.
