Retinol and going on sunny holiday question

I’ve been contemplating retinol now I’m in my 40s. I already use a daily SPF50. But what happens when you go on holiday to a hot place? Do you stop taking it? Do you keep your face out the sun? I’ve got 2 small kids so usually in the pool or by the sea so hard to keep my face out of the sun. If you do get your face in the sun, how much SPF50 are you putting on? A £2 coins worth for example?
As you can tell I’m a bit nervous! Thanks for any advice.

I'm on tretinoin which is heavy duty retinol and when I went away on a sunshine holiday I stopped using it whilst I was away. I also used a fair amount of sunblock and a hat. I still noticed increased sensitivity when I resumed using it when I came back for a week or so - although that was probably because I'd stopped using it for a bit thinking about it!

I use tretinoin. I was advised to stop taking it 6 weeks before travelling to Thailand for a month. For shorter holidays I use Ultrasun and wear a hat.

It’s fine!
Stop tretinoin during the holiday and for a week before. Spf 50 three times a day- morning, lunchtime and early evening. A hat. Sunglasses.
Google the thirteen dot technique by Dr Sam for how to apply full coverage spf.

Thanks everyone. Do you get yours from skin and me?

Yes, skin and me, they build you up very slowly, so less chance of side effects. Starts with 0.006% for first month I think!

Also used dermatica, they are good too and start at a higher percentage 0.025% I think? So more irritating initially, might need to start with a couple of nights a week and build up slowly.

I’m in 40s and really happy with the results, took about 5 months to see the glow and reduction in wrinkles.
