M&S - so annoying

I've seen a dress I like. I click to put it in my basket. Hurry it says, as there's only one left in stock. Then when I get to the checkout it's sold out.

This is not the first time it's happened. They need to improve their stock synchronisation.

There were also a number of sale items, which aren't in stock at all, so I don't know why they list them.

Customer service at oasis I think it was, before theyou were bought put, told me sometimes it's a case of lots of people having the item in their basket at once. So it can be worth checking half an hour or so later as some of those may not have checked out and it will then let you buy. It lets too many people put it in their basket basically.
Had the same issue recently with Hollister which has the option to check and reserve store stock if something is not available online. Without paying which was helpful.

Different problem, but I have tried to check out multiple times, and the page jumps about and takes me back to the top. I don't know if it's my phone or their website but I don't have a problem on other sites.

enoughofthiscrap · 12/02/2022 13:24

I hate their website. The filter doesn't work. When you put in size & colour etc it will still show you the item even if it's sold out. Next are the same. It drives me nuts 😡

Mrstwiddle · 12/02/2022 14:37

Agreed, M&S website is shocking for this, I don’t even bother buying from their online sales anymore.

TheOrigRights · 17/02/2022 16:07

They've got stock in size 6 and 24.
I'm no stock expert, but it strikes me that it is not an uncommon thing for the sizes from 10-18 to go very quickly. Maybe they could...you know....get more of those sizes to start with.

It annoys me so much. I remember doing an online order with Matalan a while ago. I paid for the items and the day before they were supposed to be delivered, Matalan sent me a message saying 'Sorry the items you purchased are out of stock' Shock

They refunded me the money but I was so disappointed I could not get the clothes I ordered.

Everydaydayisaschoolday · 17/02/2022 18:48

And they never have anything in stock in the stores either. It's as if they want to fail.

TheOrigRights · 17/02/2022 18:54

So basically M&S is just Percy Pigs now

I have this issue with their website too.

Went into an M&S store today in the hope of buying some clothes. They have stopped stocking my favourite smart trousers (the Mia) and instead there were racks of polyester nasty looking black trousers 🙁

TheOrigRights · 21/02/2022 22:40

I had the opportunity to go into a real store today to see if I could find the dress. I couldn't see it, so asked and they showed me to a rail marked "get it before it's gone" or something like that - the last of the lot thing. I hadn't even looked there what with the dress being new this season. They had 2 left in very large sizes.
It seems it's been a big success and those were all that were left, with no view to getting more stock. Odd.

It's all very odd. The dress was new for this season and it looks like it sold out, not to be replaced before the temp has even reached double figures.

Their website is so rubbish. Last year I put something in my basket that qualified for a free gift (that I didn’t really want) but the free gift was out of stock and so it wouldn’t let me buy the thing I wanted in my basket. Spent ages on the phone to customer services trying to resolve it.

TheOrigRights · 09/10/2022 15:15

They've done it again.
I ordered something which was tagged as 'more stock expected soon'.
They took my money.
Two days later I've received an email saying it's out of stock and they'll refund me.
The amount it must be costing them in admin for all these orders they're happy to take and then not fulfil must be huge.
Surely it would be better to not allow people to place an order if they don't have the stock.

I suppose what they're doing is allowing people to place orders knowing they've got say 1000 of the items coming, then they fulfil the orders of the first 1000 people and refund the rest. I don't know, I'm no business woman, but it's clear they're putting profits ahead of customer service.
I ordered a couple of tops to go with the not available item, and I don't want them now so I'll just send them back.

I'd say this sort of things happens about 50% of the time I order something from M&S online.
