You’re not Joan Collins m8.
Why are planes such style issues on here but not in RL

I would say that if someone is dressed up they are probably providing the girlfriend experience for a week (tip their shoes don’t fit as size 8 clothes go from woman to woman but shoes a little more tricky)

Whatwouldnanado · 06/02/2022 10:30

Rude OP and love how this has turned into the kind of thread they were being sniffy about. Not being a habitual jet setting type flight clothes are something I give thought to. It's part of the fun.

Malibuismysecrethome · 06/02/2022 10:33

TheHoptimist what’s a “girlfriend experience”?

Change123today · 06/02/2022 10:37

My husband has clothes for best and he won’t turn up to the airport in comfy clothes for a long flight - I’ve just about now managed to get him to change into a pair of joggers on the plane. He (pre covid) used to fly monthly to America. How he did it in jeans/suit trousers I’ve no idea.

It’s the way i think he has been bought up - he was a scholarship student in a very prestigious school - his C&A suit against all the high end tailor ones I think has made him this way. He doesn’t want to be judged so will always turn up smart! The fact that he would never judge other people and why bother with other people opinion who you are likely to never see again !

It’s who he is - smartly dressed man with his wife who hopefully remembered to brush her hair in comfy leggings and top!

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/02/2022 10:40

@GeodesicDome

Instagram?
Exactly.

While it is still jeans or joggers, it’s the right ones for some —not me— Also women’s magazines were always full of what to do on a plane, and I guess a version of that content is still out there so people think they should think about it if they aren’t used to travelling that much.

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/02/2022 10:48

@Horological

This reminds me of the people who come to London for theatre trips. You see them in groups with full make up on, viciously straightened hair and high heels.

I often wonder what they must think of Londoners though. Don't they realise really quickly that nobody in London dresses like that and that they look distinctly unclassy and out of place?

@Horological Maybe they don’t care what Londoners think because why should they?

I am a scruffy Londoner and I just think they look like they’re having a jolly time / are part of the colourful variety of life.

Using the word classy is up there with viciously straightened hair, by the way.. 🙀

A high level prostitute who you hire to don on holiday with you (or similar- acts like a girlfriend)

We used too spend a lot of time at luxury resorts in middle and Far East- they used to chat to me about it all. (they had been told to go and improve their English to up their earning potential )

Abraxan · 06/02/2022 11:17

The thing is that when you do see people going to the first class and business queues, they are usually dressed pretty much the same as for economy class, with comfort being key.

I've seen the odd person dressed in business attire checking in, but when they come out of the lounge ready to board they are often changed into loungewear type clothes, especially when it's long haul. And when you see them heading to the bathroom to freshen up before the leave the plane they usually look just as dispelled as the rest of economy class - just they then freshen up and change to smarter to leave the plane.

I've flown business class to Europe before. Booked it as it was cheaper than the remaining economy class seats 🤷‍♀️
I dressed exactly the same as would have normally. And we certainly weren't looking out of place.

I go for comfort every time. If I'm stuck in one seat for 10+ hours at a time I want to be comfortable above anything else. I'd put my PJs on for it, if it was deemed acceptable tbh! Mind, it probably is in those fancy first class suite rooms.

We lived in London and now quite close to London and are often up for the theatre. Sometimes I cant be arsed to dress up and turn up with unwashed hair, little make up, jeans and trainers. If we haven’t done anything special for a while I might feel like dressing up and wear heals, shiny washed hair and make up.

I would disagree that dressed up people know or care what other Londoners think.

I like wearing comfortable jeans with comfortable underwear. And a shirt with long sleeves because of aircon that I can roll the sleeves up. And a scarf that I can put around my shoulders if I'm cold. Wink and earrings that aren't uncomfortable and don't fall off when I sleep on the plane

Snoopsnoggysnog · 06/02/2022 11:49

I’m loving the stories of the Irish grannies!

My dad and uncles (in their 70s-80s now) would always dress smartly for flights, even for family holidays to Spain. Always a blazer, slacks and some kind of hat

Polkadotties · 06/02/2022 11:53

If I’ve paid £££ to fly business I’m going to wear whatever I want. Last time I flew business just before Covid stopped the world I wore thick leggings, a long line top to cover my bum and a long chunky knit cardi. On my feet I wore socks and converse. During the flight I took off my converse and put on some slipper socks. When it was near to landing, slipper socks and slippers came off and flip flops put on, it was 30c

MissMaple82 · 06/02/2022 11:56

Stupid unnecessary question

Emanchego · 06/02/2022 11:58

Yes I agree. They prob need advice on how to blink properly and how to wipe 😆

Bouledeneige · 06/02/2022 16:16

Actually I'm just wondering about this as I'm flying to the Caribbean tomorrow from a very cold London. It's the question of how not to be too freezing at Heathrow and how not to be too hot when I get there issue that I'm wrestling with...... (missing the dismissive point if this thread).

MrsBrodie · 06/02/2022 16:27

Why would you not just skip threads you're not interested in? That's what I do, rather than start a new thread to sneer at people asking a legitimate question.

Put away your judgy glasses. Has it ever occurred to you that people dress in a way they want to and if they want to celebrate and dress up then that's their prerogative. What IS unclassy is judging other people just because they enjoy dressing up.
turnaroundtime · 06/02/2022 17:02

@TheHoptimist your attempt to sound like a worldly traveller by belittling others just makes you look ignorant. In any case, in my many years of travel to very far flung places I have rarely seen anyone get changed. Take on and off layers maybe but get changed? Barely anyone.

Zazdar · 06/02/2022 17:31

What is there to wrestle with? Warm clothes when you get on and less warm clothes when you get off.

It could be as easy as just taking your jumper off and not putting your coat on when ypu leave the plane.

Yeah but the D- is specific to MN, always has been. Most people haven't used M8 for mate since around 2004.

Then we must travel on different planes to different places. I can assure you that on red eyes to Asia getting changed is very common.
