Hair smells of burning

I have the strangest problem, when my hair is wet it smells like it's burning almost like a singed smell, what on earth could it be? I don't notice it when dry and possibly worse after I've washed out dry shampoo.

My hair is dark brown, dyed brown to cover the greys so no bleach.

I use heat on it to dry it but keep it to the bare minimum. It's the weirdest thing, It seems to be a new thing and been for the last couple of weeks.

I've not changed any products and it's starting to freak me out a bit. I asked DH is he could smell and apparently he can 😬

Might sounds daft but have you had COVID?

If you haven't accidentally burnt your hair from overheating of the hairdryer, and if your hairdryer itself isn't on its way out and isn't the culprit itself, I wonder if it could be covid related too. Not hair burning but I've noticed some strange smells for example making dinners, like an omelette which smelt completely different - not gone off but just not a food smell and I am wondering if that is covid related as I may have had it unknowingly.

That was my first thought. It does some really weird things
itsutterlyshit · 05/02/2022 20:09

No, never had covid neither has DH. I was letting it air dry today and it seemed more obvious /lingered more.

It's definitely coming from my hair, I was in the livingroom when I had the conversation with DH and he could smell it.

There's no frazzled hair and it feels quite healthy to the touch. It's a mystery

Have you changed your diet?

Marmm · 05/02/2022 20:13

Maybe you burnt it once and now it has to grow out?

itsutterlyshit · 05/02/2022 20:16

It's the weirdest thing. There's nothing I can attribute it to at all. Can't wait for my hair dresser appointment to ask her.

My diet is the same as always and I had a massive chop, 7inches chopped off. It feels like it's in the best condition, it just smells weird.

Ask your DH does your scalp smell or just the hair
