Clairol Root Touch Up

hairstory · 05/02/2022 10:12

I usually get my dark brown hair dyed at the hairdressers. As I am in my early 50s I get grey roots coming through every few weeks.

I have ordered a clairol root touch up in medium brown. I've read that the dye is dark and the dark brown is like black.

Has anyone used the medium brown root touch up? I am hoping it is going to save me a fortune. My hairdresser is great but it's £60 for roots and a blow dry. Thanks

I have been using it for years and it's fantastic, Medium Brown works well for me, Dark Brown is way too dark

@Bustarold - thanks for the reply. How dark is your hair?

I've got dark brown hair, I use the medium brown, the dark brown is too dark.

Medium is quite dark. However, if it’s not quite right you can mix it with another shade to make your custom colour.

Thanks for your replies. I will give it a go. I might just use it on a small section of grey first to see if it blends in.

And how long do you leave it on for? I read in one of the reviews that someone leaves it on for 40 minutes to make sure the grey gets covered. Thanks

Maybe 20 mins? Try an underneath bit first and see how you get on?

I used it for the first time last week.
Very pleased with it and should get me through the next two weeks until I can get to a professional.
Longer term will rebuy and I think it means I can push root touch ups out to 8 weeks so should save me.

Used it for years! It comes up dark so go for a shade lighter.

I am quite pleased with the result. It was a bit darker than I expected but covered the greys. I think I will continue using it for root touch ups and at £6 a box it will save me some money.

Do any of you just use it for root touch ups until you need an all over hair dye and then go to the hairdressers? I think it I was to dye the ends the same colour it would look too dark and a one dimensional colour overall.

I’ve used it for years, I get my dark blonde hair coloured every 6 weeks and use half a box of touch up in the middle, around my hairline and parting.
It also got me through when hairdressers were closed.

I use this too and find it really good. My hair isn’t coloured, I just use it to cover the big grey patches round my ears! The rest of my hair isn’t too bad with just random greys here and there. I use either dark brown or dark ash brown, both seem to suit my hair, and leave it for 15 minutes.

I wish I'd used it during lockdown! I'm trying to cut down on what I spend at the moment and this is going to save me quite a bit.

I thought it was going to be messy applying it but I think I've seen hairdressers doing my roots so many times that I knew how to do it.
