It's my step-daughter's wedding this autumn and I'm beginning to think of a wedding outfit. I really like this dress but I'm not sure if it's too casual. The model wears it with boots but worn with heels, a nice bag (and even a hat!) would it be suitable for a wedding at a country house venue? Or not special enough?

SD has bought a beautiful traditional wedding dress and not sure what the mother of the groom is wearing yet. I hate the usual mother of the bride stuff so am looking for a normal but lovely dress which I could hopefully wear again. I'm 5'7" and usually a 10 but might need a 12 in Whistles.

Thank you 🙂

Too casual. It's a day dress in my mind

bettertocryinamercedes · 03/02/2022 16:20

When I say day dress, I mean I would wear that to work as a teacher

catwithflowers · 03/02/2022 16:22

Oh, way too casual for a special event then 🙈. Thanks for replying. That was my worry!

Too casual, I would also wear it to work.

It’s a nice dress though!

1frenchfoodie · 03/02/2022 16:25

I think you’d need to bling up your outfit with a smart jacket, earrings, shoes etc for a more bridal party look but as long as you like it and feel good why not. My mum wore a jumpsuit to my brother’s recent wedding rather than the more MoB structured stuff she wore for me and my sister getting married and she looked so much better for wearing something she was happy in.

Hoppinggreen · 03/02/2022 16:25

It’s nice but not really a special occasion dress

AdaColeman · 03/02/2022 16:28

What's your colouring catwithflowers? A very pale blue like that can be a difficult colour to wear.

Bideshi · 03/02/2022 16:29

Much nicer and classier than all those deeply weird MOB outfits that make usually normal women look like pantomime dames. I like it. Don't get lured in to the wedding hype. Look like a beautifully scrubbed up version of yourself.

Bubbles1st · 03/02/2022 16:30

Definitely too casual and I think wrong colour for autumn

Journeynotdestination · 03/02/2022 16:32

I like it. With heels, a good jacket or wrap & some chunky jewellery I think it’ll look perfect.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 03/02/2022 16:34

I agree with @Bubbles1st and was coming on to say very much the same-

Dress too casual and not at all Autumnal in vibe.

What are the bridesmaid/flowers colours?

You may want to compliment the wedding colours for photographs etc-not necessarily wear the same but don't clash or stand out too much

catwithflowers · 03/02/2022 16:36

@AdaColeman I have dark blonde/streaked with silver grey hair, in a jaw length bob, fair skin which tans and blue/grey eyes. Mid fifties.

I'm following another much posher thread about the royal garden party and looking there for inspiration too 😂

It's a pretty dress which can be dressed up or down with different accessories. So it could be a good possibility for the wedding.

catwithflowers · 03/02/2022 16:40

@mumsiedarlingrevolta bridesmaids dresses are browns/greens/cream/ little bit of orange perhaps? So autumnal colours. I think SD plans to have orange/teal and some other strong colours in her bouquet.

Thanks everyone for replying 😊

This

I think wearing to complement the bridal "colours" would mean that in the photos it would look extra good

Overandout1 · 03/02/2022 19:31

It's a pretty dress but I agree it's not dressed up enough. I'd wear it for Sunday lunch or on a summer's day.

whoseafraidofnaomiwolf · 03/02/2022 19:40

Meh. Good for everyday.

I love that blue dress!!! I'm gutted cos if it's not posh enough for a wedding it's also not posh enough for Liz's bash.

SparklingLime · 03/02/2022 19:49

It’s rather clinical looking. I can imagine it as a uniform for a receptionist in a private clinic.

Mamamia35 · 03/02/2022 19:56

@catwithflowers I like that dress! I think you should wear something you feel comfortable in. Order it and see how you feel I it

Is the actual mother of the bride going to be there? (Not asking for backstory, just that it needs to be considered.) If she is, OP shouldn't be looking to fit in with bridesmaids/bridal colours, and something more casual could be appropriate. But if OP is going to be in the role of MoB, then perhaps something more dressy. I do like that dress, though.

Chloemol · 03/02/2022 20:02

I like it, smart jacket and shoes and hat it will look nice

100problems · 03/02/2022 20:06

I like it too, and I could style that up very easily with a hat, bag and shoes. Also re-wearable, which is a bonus!
