Hi, I'm attending a wedding in May and feeling old & frumpy having put on weight during lockdown, and have no idea where to look or what people are wearing to weddings. Please can anybody suggest some stores for me to try looking at? I'm pear shaped and currently size 18, am working on trying to lose some weight before then to try and feel a bit better about myself.

Can you answer some questions? What’s your favourite day time outfit/style?
What kind of shoes do you see yourself wearing? Do you have something in your wardrobe already that you want to wear like a nice jacket, necklace, shoes etc?
(I’m deliberately not asking about dresses)

Look at wearsmymoney or Anna cascarina blogs. If you are a little older, midlifechic also does round ups all the time. Even if the posts are old all will give you tons of ideas. You could also try John Lewis for a personal shopping session, they do not pressure you and will have lots of ideas

I looked at those blogs and couldn't find anything I class as suitable for a late 40s plump/curvy woman!
@loulou2012
Personally, I'd try the likes of Phase 8 and find a style that works for you. You're lucky it's a spring summer wedding not winter spring where its harder to judge the weather!
Good luck.

Thank you @Thinkle and others that's given me a few different ways to think about things, I've dug out a few of my shoes & handbags to try and help, they are fairly neutral so could go with different things, and I will look at those blogs now and phase 8. But will now think about the overall pic with the accessories, shoes etc as I'd rather use some things I already have where possible

Wfh & the weight gain has certainly made me lose myself in terms of any style I might have had previously. Thank you for the feedback

@ChoiceMummy Anna cascarina is size 16 and features a really sensible range of clothes for all sizes and ages. In my opinion her wedding guest post is excellent. But maybe not for everyone

I don’t think I framed my question properly. Sometimes we obsess about the dress and then compromise on shoes and coverups etc but actually you can make the shoe or jacket the feature of the outfit and wear the simplest of dresses. So if either you have something that brings you joy or see something that you love then you can build the outfit from there. And jackets and shoes are more forgiving to changes in weight

Am with you on this.

Wedding also in May and the dress I bought for the original Wedding date two years ago, fits someone at least two stone lighter.

I think Phase-Eight have some lovely things this year and have been reading their guide www.phase-eight.com/100921-wedding-guest-looks.html

Hobbs is also worth a look.
