Best wellies under £100?

I've just moved to a village and need a new pair of wellies for muddy walks with young DC. Much as I would love a pair of Aigle or Le Chameau ones, I just can't justify that sort of price tag. We don't have a dog and the DC don't walk that far. I kind of like the idea of neoprene lined ones but are they too hot for summer?

What are your recommendations for decent quality, sensibly priced wellies that don't look awful or too try-hard, and don't make me look even more of a clueless townie than I already do!

The barbour ones are good, link here:

The same shop has hunter wellies for sale too.

I have muck boots and they're great. I have the original pull ons

HeadToToesNo · 02/02/2022 10:01

Don't buy Hunters, they moved their production to China a few years ago and their quality has been very poor since.
I had a pair of neoprene Muck Boots (I got them in the sale for £40 reduced from £130) and they lasted 3 years of daily dog walks. I would definitely recommend them.

Hunters are awful quality these days bit for light use might be OK. TBH you would be just as well off looking at some of the supermarkets. Sainsbury's had dome quite jolly patterns. Basically there are good quality wellies, cheap wellies but serviceable and fashion but no better than cheap wellies. Le Chameau are good quality. Dunlop are cheap and ugly but serviceable and Hunters and supermarket are fashion.

Don't buy Hunters, they're cheaply made, and are mostly worn by mud-hating chavs.
Google 'Gateway wellies' they average around £180 but you can often find them on EBay for under £100. Made from Japanese rubber...cool wellies Smile

That was kind of my impression of Hunters tbh.

Thanks everybody for the suggestions, I'll check them all out. I quite like the Barbour ones already!

Muck boots are the best

BabiaMajora · 03/02/2022 09:11

There are lots of Aigle under £100 on Amazon OP - my go to brand for wellies and they last really well.

alpinia · 03/02/2022 09:39

TK Maxx and some other discount sites like Brand Alley have had Le Chameau and Aigle boots for £70-£80. Perhaps have a look there?

I've had various over the years and find Le Chameau the best by miles. Worth the investment for the amount of years wear you can get out of them and the comfort.

randomsabreuse · 03/02/2022 09:42

Hoggs of Fife with vibram soles. Makes a massive difference to avoiding a wet and muddy bum having decent grip underfoot.

Not the most fashionable but neither is a muddy bottom!

poorbuthappy · 03/02/2022 09:43

Deffo Muck boots. You can get 10% first order still I think.

Fispi · 03/02/2022 09:45

Barbour neoprene lined

Asdf12345 · 03/02/2022 09:48

Don’t touch hunter.

My last pair of aigles lasted six years of near daily use, replacements were £130 from my local stockist, they rarely seem to be sold here at full rrp.

Datada · 03/02/2022 09:52

Dunlop, not fashionable, but decent quality. Wear thick wool socks under.
