Smart casual pub meal outfit

Please help me - I’ve been invited to my boyfriend’s mum’s birthday meal at a nice pub, it’s an evening meal.

I’ve put a bit of weight on recently and I don’t have anything to wear and feel trapped in the headlights with this. I’m probably a size 14-16, 5’11. Does anyone have any outfit ideas please and I’ll order some stuff online? Flowers

Nice top with trousers? Gabrielle Parker has some lovely shirts and blouses, and she uses some beautiful fabrics. I have this in blue - very easy to wear and flattering.

Wrap dress, jewellery, boots.

If that was me and I’d put on weight I’d wear a really flattering dress. They can be so much more forgiving than trousers.
I’d look at Boden, Hot Squash, maybe even M&S for something flattering that you can wear again. I’d do nice make up and jewellery and carry a cross body bag

Thank you everyone

Don't wear a wrap dress!

You're tall and powerful!

Who do you want to be?

Pangolin44 · 03/02/2022 01:38

And I hate the word 'flattering' gawd, who wants to be flattered?

Not me.

What does it even mean?

Flattering??

No. Goodness.

You are tall, express yourself, be bold.

Tell me about yourself.

DarlingCoffee · 03/02/2022 05:44

Would do something like this be your style worn with some flat boots?

I’m more jeans, boots, knits, or shirt type of person. Collar, v or slash neck are good.

I’ve looked at a load of dresses online but just not feeling it atm! And can’t find a good one.

Maxi dresses with prints are a no as look like a billowing frumpy tent! 😄

I'm 45 & a size 12-16 depending on the store!!
When I go for pub meals I usually wear my slim leg jeans rolled up to show off my ankle boots/ clean trainers & a smart top / jumper.
After all it's not a posh restaurant but you're socialising so you still want to look good.

Lately I've generally worn a short slightly boxy jumper with detailing over a longer top.
If I'm feeling slim I tuck the top in.
Or I wear a smock top with a lower neckline that flows over my stomach (and a vest under for warmth).
With my favourite gold jewellery & a small bag.

I then wear my puffa jacket on top as it won't matter too much if it gets thrown in a pile of coats.

Simply Be have lots of smock tops on offer right now.
I like River Island too.
Orelia is good for gold plated jewellery.

Latara · 03/02/2022 12:40

Sorry I sound like my mum going on about vests for warmth haha but I'm sat here right now without heating!!

Bussinbussin · 03/02/2022 12:53

We're the same height and size Smile

I do love dresses but if that's out for you, my other favourite going out combo is leather with silk.

So, silk shirt or shell top with leather pants or skirt. Or, bias cut silk skirt with leather jacket (plain tee underneath). Best combination depends on your shape really, and whether you want to emphasise your waist or legs.

All can be with with (nice) trainers, brogues or flat ankle boots.

Goldilocks99 · 03/02/2022 13:08

I'm probably well behind on trends but I would opt for a nice chunky knit jumper and coated leggings.
(Prepares to be told leggings are so 2021)

I'm going out on Saturday and I'm going to wear this jumper with a midi tube skirt and black ankle boots. www.phase-eight.com/product/belsa-stripe-colourblock-fine-knit-jumper-403511175.html#navAjax=true&imageType=model&is=false&sz=60&start=118&cgid=knitwear&isSecondPage=false&pid=403511175&pos=136
