I have my first interview in 12 years next week, what do I wear!?
Been a sahm for the past two years and was in the same job for 10 years before that so it's a long time since I've had to dress for an interview.
Im 30 and a size 14 if that matters, Thankyou mumsnetters!

Well done on getting an interview!! What sector and job type is it for?

needanoutfit · 31/01/2022 00:24

@TheOpenRoad

Thankyou!
It's for a management role in the retail sector, complete career change from 10 years in childcare.

What’s your budget @needanoutfit? And do you have any bits you don’t like or bits you do? Do you like your legs abs prefer skirts to trousers? Are you happy in heels or want flatter shoes? Can you wear strong colours?

needanoutfit · 31/01/2022 07:50

@Aphantasia I have around £100 for a full outfit, could stretch a little if needed, not keen on showing my legs so would probably prefer trousers to skirts and dresses. Don't mind a heel or a colour Smile

Unless you're super good in heels I'd always go flats for an interview (actually I'd probably go flats anyway!). No specific recommendations but you can't go wrong with trousers, blouse and jacket. I've had some lovely trousers from Tesco, ankle length slim fit type things. Worth spending a little more to get a jacket that fits you nicely.

Retail management role I’d wear a trouser suit with a jersey style top underneath

I had an interview last Thur, not manager role or anything very high up but a complete change of role from what I’m doing now. I wore this, and brogue style flat shoes.

I haven’t heard back yet and am on pins!

Good luck with yours Smile

Thankyou! I love your outfit, I have some black brogues in the wardrobe somewhere actually.

Ooh good luck, fingers crossed for you!

Which brand is the role in?

I wouldn't wear a trouser suit, separates with a blouse are better. I wear ankle grazer slim trousers, a blouse and either a jacket or smart cardigan for work. Shoes are either a brogue or a loafer.

TheOpenRoad · 01/02/2022 07:46

I've spent my career in office jobs so not up to date on retail. I'd have a look at the brand if it's anything fashion or beauty related. If you stick to something that is neat, covered up, clean and tidy hair/makeup I'm sure you'll be awesome

@needanoutfit thank you Smile

How did your interview go?

I still haven’t heard back about mine Confused
