How to choose a surgeon?

Hi S&B,

I've made up my mind to get my eyelids seen to. They've bothered me my whole life and are only getting worse. Colleagues have asked me if I have in fact just woken up Sad

Have any of you had an upper blepharoplasty in London recently? How did you choose your surgeon? I have already had one consultation at Moorfields Private and am wondering about how many more it would be wise to arrange. I'm a bit wary of doctors with large social media followings, but wonder if I should try to get past it and treat it like any other form of advertising.

Have you had the procedure? Did you maybe have it done at Moorfields, or elsewhere in London? And if you would be happy to share (here or by PM) details of your surgeon, I'd be very grateful indeed!

I had upper and lower blepharoplasty done by Alex Karidis in 2017. His clinic is at the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth in St Johns Wood. I have been really happy with the results. I had a lower face lift/neck lift at the same time. I went to him because I had a recommendation from someone else who had used him.

I'm also looking for cosmetic surgery, specifically rhinoplasty and breast augmentation in Kent or possibly London, I am having trouble finding any information, recommendations, or forums on it. If you do find any resources please come back and share.

Thanks so much @LilyRose88, I was actually looking at another surgeon attached to John&Lizzie's yesterday, so I'll be sure to read about them all.

Did you have any other consultations, or was the person who recommended Dr. Karidis such a good advert for his work that you didn't feel it was worth it?

Is there anything else special you might advise me to keep in mind?

Thanks again!

Dominic Bray. He has a very long wait list though. He has a good Instagram page and a few of his clients have their own pages where you can follow their ops. One of them has just had her eyelids done and has charted her progress.

I didn't have any other consultations as I was really happy to go with Alex Karidis based on the recommendation I received as the person who recommended him had very good results. I was also very impressed with him when I had the consultation. He didn't try to upsell any other procedures and he was very honest about how I would feel immediately after the operation (as I had a face lift at the same time). I am delighted with the results. He was very keen to give me a natural look and no-one ever guesses that I have had work done.

There are some good groups on Facebook for this run by Karen Perrett. She is also on Instagram.

@psuedocream3 I had a tummy tuck and breast augmentation at Bella Vou in Tunbridge Wells and would highly recommend.
I think rhinoplasty is quite specialist though so can't help with that.

Hello, can you give me an idea of the cost you paid for your treatment. I’d love to go to Mr Karidis, but don’t want to waste anyone’s time if the cost is far too much in the first place. I’m looking for similar to what you had. Ball park ish?

LilyRose88 · 02/04/2024 16:30

@Coolpipp It was seven years ago and I can't fully remember but with everything included, i.e. consultation, facelift, upper and lower blepharoplasty, anaesthetist costs, blood tests and hospital stay ( 3 nights) I believe it was around £10k to £12k. I've tried searching on my banking app but it doesn't go back that far. He isn't cheap but I wanted a general anaesthetic and someone who was personally recommended so he was my only choice. I didn't shop around at all. I know that he does offer finance packages but I had savings and used those. HTH.
