Joules

What do we think of joules these days? I find myself popping in there every time I shop and buying online because they often have 20% off but then it arrives and it's either badly made or frumpy and I end up annoyed I keep finding myself shopping there! Anyone else?

I'm mid 30s and have accidentally made myself a uniform out of their Breton top. Less than delighted every time I see a dog walker 20 years my senior dressed the same.

But… I like their long sleeve tops for my small maternity leave life. They wash well, are nice and thick and are a slight step up from a baggy t. Plus, they're cheap as chips on the eBay outlet.

What's wrong with happening to be wearing the same thing as someone 20 years older than you?

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 27/01/2022 18:09

I bought a lovely set of pyjamas in the sale, they were ridiculously priced but they have work well. I treated myself to a jumper at the same time as it was Christmas money I had been given, the jumper is a lovely colour and pattern but the wool is cheap and bobbles terribly so I have to de-bobble every time I wear it ! It was £80 reduced to £52. Definitely not good quality

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 27/01/2022 18:09

Worn well ! Although haven't washed them yet

SarahJessicaParker3 · 27/01/2022 18:12

I'm in my 30s and have no problem wearing something someone 20, 30, 40+ years older than me is!

That said, I'm not mad on Joules. Don't think the quality is great and their tops are no good on the tall and busty ime. I do have one dress from there which I really like though.

tootiredtobother · 27/01/2022 18:12

made in china is it not ?

stickybear · 27/01/2022 18:25

I find their T-shirts good quality and have a lovely jersey midi dress that I got in the summer, but their knitwear is awful these days. Overpriced and horrible fabric. What is the weird spongy stuff that so many jumpers seem to be made of at the moment?! Fat Face is the same.

GVmama · 27/01/2022 18:50

The quality has really gone downhill over the past few years, all the shoes and handbags are no longer leather and most of the the knitwear isn’t wool. I used to like them but wouldn’t bother any more, they’re not worth the money they charge.

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 27/01/2022 21:06

I'd agree about the quality, although I like my pyjamas Grin

PinkPlantCase · 27/01/2022 21:08

I like their kids clothes Grin

beechie12 · 27/01/2022 21:09

I think they can be frumpy. Esp some of the floral tops.

MrsMigginsCat · 27/01/2022 21:09

Their customer service is good. I bought some white trainers in the sale in April last year. Put them on one day in November, I'd worn them quite a few times at this point, and found that one of the seams had split. Live chatted customer service, explained the problem, uploaded a photo and they refunded straight away.

It wasn't the 20 years older, it was the 20 years older dog walker thing. It's a very niche subset of people who have an identical uniform to me.

I'm not saying it in a negative way - I obviously think they look lovely because I have the exact same wardrobe as them.

Joules tops seem to be a practical, hard wearing choice rather than fashion forward.

ConfusedParticle · 28/01/2022 12:11

im mostly put off by their miserable ethics score.
cant remember the link now but they were one of the worst performing brands concerning ethics, low pay, animal welfare and environment..

lived in lake district for years, had the opportunity to watch as the quality went to shit, thin, shiny high street tat for the old joules prices.

On the subject of dressing like an older woman, cant see a problem with that. recently im more interested in what women 20+ yrs older than me are wearing than younger, dunno why.

Abra1d1 · 28/01/2022 12:23

I have a waterproof coat from four years ago, which is great, and a pair of walking boots which I wear for skin that requires being in my feet outdoors for hours. Also great.

Have not bought any indoor clothes from them as they look a bit frumpy.
