Highlights is this ok or would you complain?

First time getting highlights today and I'm happy with it overall, but I feel like it doesn't look right around the ears/hairline. As it's my first time i don't know what to expect or if IABU? It kind of looks OK when the hair is falling straight down but I feel like it's too obvious when I pull the hair back.

That’s a lot of hair highlighted. Mine is much finer than that especially at the temple.

Had mine done this morning. Just going to find a mirror and have a look.

Just had a look at mine. I'm grey so have a base colour all over and then highlights and you can't see a colour change like that. I can't post a picture as the camera on my phone isn't working.

It looks like you’ve only had one colour put on? This might work on the top of your head if they’ve done it finely but won’t work there as it’s wider.

Well, the change of colour is visible, can't argue with you there.

Having said that: even if the bleaching went right to the root, you'd end up with the exact same effect as soon as you have some re-growth.

Personally, I have my highlights painted in. It avoids the harsh transition problem. I've also never had them taken up quite that close to my roots, re-growth being the precise consideration.

Also, as PP has said: it is a lot of highlighting, which will be more visible by default.

I don't think I'd complain about it, though, unless you specifically asked for something else. This is basically what chunky highlights look like.

I'm a hairdresser. They just haven't gone close enough to the root. It's down to inexperience (or being rushed, or rubbish)

soberfabulous · 25/01/2022 17:36

OP I fell out with my last hairdresser for the same reason: they would do my highlights but completely miss the roots. I like to clip my hair up at the front so it was really visible too.

The breaking point for me was coming home from getting my hair done and my 6 year old asking why I had a brown ring round my face Hmm

I changed hairdresser and now; once all the foils are in; they take a fine paintbrush and paint the colour on at the front in fine lines. I'm not paying all that money and sitting in a chair for all that time to be left with roots!

It’s not totally awful, I don’t know that it warrants a complaint but I definitely wouldn’t go there again either.

themerrywifeofwindsor · 25/01/2022 17:44

Thanks all, I wasn't sure if it was bad enough to warrant a complaint, I'm quite happy with the rest. I will probably leave it and make sure they don't do it next time - they're just round the corner and they're quite reasonable so I think I will give it another chance!
