Mid life jeans crisis

Please help! For years I resisted the skinny jeans trend, sticking to my beloved boot cuts for as long as I could. Then I gave in and it worked for me for a while but now I'm a bit older, 2 children later and the skinnies don't seem to cut it anymore. I can't seem to find a pair that fits on the waist/hips but doesn't go baggy on the knees. So I spend my days hoiking up the waistband which is probably at least a size too small just to get my knees to look decent.

I've tried going back to my old favourites but I just end up looking frumpy or like I'm trying too hard. Please tell me how everyone else finds a decent pair of jeans. I've obviously got too much going on in the hips and not enough in the knees Hmm

I've just gone back into boot cuts or skinnie flares.

I love flares!
Not massive ones though 😉
Top shop ( on ASOS) do great skinny flares.

Try River Island or Topshop, Asos, HM or Mango or Zara. They all do a good variety of jeans and the denim is not too bad. They all have 100% cotton too which I prefer but mixes are available. Why not try a wide leg slightly cropped? Spring is just around the corner.... Grin

Pick a good colour.
Decide what you normally wear with them ie tighter tops can do baggier jeans and vice versa.
Lower cut is better for fat tummies. Yes you get a muffin top ( or Victoria sponge) don’t get horrible side creases that emphasise a large gunt.

I've been wearing slim leg with a bit of a turn up with boots or trainers or a straight leg with a higher waist and much prefer how they look over skinnies.
I've been wearing relaxed fit/boyfriend/tapered leg jeans since at least 2017 and still wear them especially during summer months. Personally I think Mom jeans only really work with summer footwear, I'm not a fan of them with heavy boots.
The good thing is there are a zillion different styles of jeans to try so if you are looking to move away from skinnies then there is definitely another style out there for you! I would recommend starting with Levi's- good quality and a variety of styles with a decent range of sizing.

I just ordered a pair of low rise cargo jeans from Urban Outfitters. Now they are midlife crisis jeans Grin - I used to wear the same style in the late 90s when I was at University. I really hope they fit!!

Magic slim flares from M&S. Really nice and hold their shape well.

What height and size are you OP? I think that would help people suggest what has worked for them. I’ve a really nice unhemmed straight leg pair from Phase 8 of all places but they need a few washes before I rate them properly and at 5ft 3 the length is great for me but no doubt intended to be 7/8.

When the weather is warmer I love a short, turned up jean with a grey, petite button up Topshop one my fave if only for no-bloat days as they have no stretch.
