Are these glasses nice or hideous?

jolliejullie · 24/01/2022 09:41

Thinking of taking the plunge and upgrading my current, boring glasses to something more interesting. I have found a pair I really like, but are they a bit too much?

Context: early 30s, I work in the creative industry, blond bob haircut, good bone structure.

Why do you all think? Am I crazy for considering these glasses? Are they cool or hideous?

Love them, sounds like they would suit you.

I have a pair of glasses very similar to these. I purchased them from the men's range in Specsavers. I call them my 'Frank Butchers'. The frames cost £39 - super super cheap (tho I'm blind as a bat and so the lenses were mucho dinero!). I love them to bits, and interestingly, I am ALWAYS getting positive comments on them. I do love men's frames though and find they suit me much better than 'lady' frames. Anyhoo, my point is, if you like them and can carry them off, I say go for it. You won't regret it.

FrogIAm · 24/01/2022 17:21

Go for it!
I find darker thicker frames work for people so much better than the tiny little ones or half framed thin metal ones trying to hide the fact you are wearing glasses. The more colour the better and bigger lenses are actually better for day to day life and seeing and not having to look down!

They look very masculine. I think it's the upper piece of metal on the bridge.
The best glasses follow your eyebrows.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 24/01/2022 17:22

They're my grandad's glasses so I couldn't wear them but they're quite the thing at the moment so wear them!

moomoogalicious · 24/01/2022 17:25

They're nice. My teen daughter has a pair of aviators if that helps you decide Grin

Whydoesthecatalwaysdothat · 24/01/2022 17:27

I don't like them but I remember them the first time around.

I think they’re cool. They’re kind of hideous at the same time, but still cool. I’d actually be quite interested in trying some of these on because I’m looking for new glasses.

PlanetNormal · 24/01/2022 17:46

Those glasses instantly reminded me of this guy :

Are they aviator style? That's what I'm supposed to wear with my big forehead, but on me they'd just look dated.

See, I think they look cool now AND I think cliff looks cool then.
DinaDirvla · 25/01/2022 06:23

I think they're cool and I imagine with your bone structure they'll look good!

I'm going to try some when I next change mine. I'm 50 this year and a bit fat, so staying edgy is the best I can do - but I have a small round race so they might look awful! I tend to go for big cat-eye frames.

Squills · 25/01/2022 06:25

It obviously depends on your face.

My first thought was that they could have a drooping effect.

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 25/01/2022 06:44

While that's true for lots of people, it's useful to remember that with some prescriptions, really big lenses don't work well. For example, if you have a high minus prescription (for short sight/myopia), they can get very thick at the edges. Your optician would be able to tell you if that's likely to be a problem with your prescription, though — I have a prescription around -11 and last time I got new glasses, they basically brought me the half-dozen pairs in the shop that wouldn't make the lenses have ridiculously thick edges Grin Strongly suspect OP isn't as shortsighted as me, otherwise she wouldn't even consider those frames, but it's something to be aware of if they're a much bigger lens size than her usual and she has even a moderate prescription.

Floisme · 25/01/2022 08:09

Clumping makes a good point. I was thinking of switching back to metallic frames recently and my optician warned me that, although it was do-able, I might not like the effect, even with lens thinners and even though I've worn that style in the past. I can't remember my prescription but it's a complicated one. I would definitely check with your optician.

Oh yes I can relate to this…

I’m -9.50 both eyes with astigmatism and various other eye issues. I also need a +1.50 reading add. I tend to choose the frames to fit the lenses I need rather than choosing a frame to suit my face! So frustrating.

Croissantly · 25/01/2022 08:15

I'd look ridiculous in them, others would look great, it really depends with glasses I think!

ufucoffee · 25/01/2022 08:22

I've not seen anyone who suits this style. Hideous. Sorry OP.

Snorkmaidenn · 25/01/2022 09:43

One pair from vision express and frames only from tk maxx, opticians added lenses.
