What to wear 60th garden party in March

Hello, first time poster here so I hope this works!
It's my mum's birthday the beginning of March. We will be having a garden party (weather permitting) can go indoors to house if wet. However, am envisaging that if it is dry at least, it will be a mixture of mingling both indoors and outdoors throughout the day. I need help in deciding what to wear please! I want to make an effort of course for my mum's special birthday but I do also have young children/Will be busy hosting etc and I don't like wearing heels. Any suggestions and images gratefully received.
Thank you in advance!

I can't help thinking if I were going to be spending 3 hours outside in March, then 29 times out of 30 I would be wearing the sort of clothes I would wear to camp..... layers, and clothes that cover me..... hoodies and gloves most likely.
I'm not really thinking it will be the time of year for a beautiful dress.

RampantIvy · 23/01/2022 23:17

Warm clothes and boots. Sorry, that wasn't much help.

StCharlotte · 23/01/2022 23:19

Your big coat.

StCharlotte · 23/01/2022 23:24

Actually I'd wear something like a tiered cord midi dress - bit warmer - and knee length boots with a blanket shawl hanging by the back door for forays into the garden. You never know though, as my MIL always tells us on BIL's early March birthday, he was born in heatwave so you might get lucky with the weather Smile

I’d go for trousers and warm layers, with a beautiful scarf and jewellery.
Depending on budget these are rather lovely www.joedwardsretail.co.uk/store/c20/REDS.html

Undertheoldlindentree · 24/01/2022 03:13

Just wondering if you are in the UK?

ApolloandDaphne · 24/01/2022 03:35

I would wear something very very warm.

JinglingHellsBells · 24/01/2022 09:05

Whereabouts in the UK is it?

I have relatives and friends with March birthdays and it's often snowed Shock

I don't think you can plan for a garden party in early March. The other guests must be terrified about they will wear!

Boood · 24/01/2022 09:36

What is the usual dress code at your office? I guess you want to wear a slightly more festive version of that, seeing as we class garden parties as work events now.

Bethany7 · 24/01/2022 12:22

These are lovely, thank you so much!

Boden had a nice tiered cord dress I seem to remember if you are heading that way for outfit , perhaps ankle boots ? There are lots of lovely suede ones etc in jewel colours to make things interesting

You could wear thin thermal layer underneath a lovely outfit if you want to have a really special dress

I do think for early March you would be lucky to get really good outside weather that would mean other guests happy to be outside - but do you have outside heaters planned ?

pacificblue · 25/01/2022 20:16

Brilliant!’

JinglingHellsBells · 25/01/2022 20:23

@Bethany7 I am shivering at the thought of an outdoor party in March. I went to a mid-March wedding once and it snowed.

I really don't think it is fair to ask guests to endure a March garden party.

Even in June when we have family birthdays, the weather can be terrible.

Sorry.

Anotherbrokenairer · 25/01/2022 20:34

Sorry I came to say hat, scarf, gloves and wellies 🤭.

Bethany7 · 29/01/2022 17:26

Please don't worry, it's a huge house where the party will be and our guests will of course be allowed to be inside the house!!!
Yes outside heaters will be there for sure. I just envisage us indoors and outdoors in and out mingling, the kids will likely all be outside etc playing. It's just trying to get the 'style' of clothing right as it's a special occasion but also during the day and on a house/garden.

In all seriousness am glad if I gave some of you a laugh with my heading of title! We are in Southern England and believe it or not sometimes March can be lovely typical spring weather!

Some nice faux fur gilets about you could wear over a tiered dress with boots and a scarf if chilly.

Saw some good ones second hand on vinted (trying to be sustainable).
