At your school drop off are all the mums in navy knee length parkas?

I have to admit, I have this as my current winter jacket. I need a new one as it’s looking pretty old. But I notice that it is almost a uniform for the mums where I am. I feel a bit cliche walking around in one now! What makes a good alternative winter coat? It needs to be casual and suit dog walking too?

Nope. Most mums at our school are in black padded/puffa style coats in a mid or long length!

MargosKaftan · 23/01/2022 20:46

The coat of choice round here is navy puffer /padded coat around or just below the knee. I own one. I wore it for pick up last week and realised someone else had the exact same one. Then looked around and realised most woman were wearing a variation of the same. Will endeavour to wear my nice wool coats unless its raining.

Nomicron · 23/01/2022 20:48

Can anyone recommend a good one? I’m happy to be a sheep as long as I’m warm!

Yep our school too! It’s the uniform du jour for the school run mums. Along with black leggings, white trainers and mum buns
Indecisivelurcher · 23/01/2022 20:50

No, but I've got one and it's lush, it's a pull and bear one that I got nearly new (looks unworn even) off vinted for £9!

scaredsadandstuck · 23/01/2022 20:52

More puffer/quilted here but a range of colours/styles. Practical, warm - can't go wrong!

Ohmycron · 23/01/2022 20:52

Why don’t you have one coat for dog walking one coat for looking nice

Hoppl · 23/01/2022 20:57

Ah the puffer ones are nice. I think maybe the area I live isn’t massively fashionable and we haven’t quite moved on to puffer yet. Well some have, but still mostly it is parkas. I would love two jackets but not sure I can justify cos for both.

Same at nursery here. Mine is from Primark and it's bloody amazing.
LazyDoll · 23/01/2022 21:02

I love my NorthFace parka in classic parka khaki…it’s been my school run coat for the last 5 years or so and still going strong.

minipie · 23/01/2022 21:09

Yup. Uniform, to the extent that other children come running up thinking I’m their mum, as we have the same hair and coat.

The really daring wear khaki puffers/parkas instead Grin.

Dogdayafternoonz · 23/01/2022 21:11

Everyone at our school wears a different coat.

Kitkat151 · 23/01/2022 21:16

No ...all different coats

Hoppl · 23/01/2022 21:18

Lol minipie, yes it is like it’s a compulsory uniform. I was actually thinking maybe I should be different and get a khaki one. Or maybe even a red parka!

I’ve got a grey parka - I really dislike puffa though. Sometimes I just wear my Peter storm insulated jacket though.

TheFishWillSeeYouNow · 23/01/2022 21:29

Ooh go for a North Face Arctic Parka, it's incredibly warm!

HerculesMulligan · 23/01/2022 21:31

Dark green parkas / Seasalt-style macs, and black puffa coats here.

MarshaBradyo · 23/01/2022 21:33

No more a range of different styles

I wear a dark grey pea coat usually

WhiteJellycat · 23/01/2022 21:33

Not at my school. It's mostly ankle length puffa jackets. I am breaking the mould with printed patterned Parker and some quite bold coloured more traditional Kate Middleton type wool numbers.

Skybooks · 23/01/2022 21:44

I got a navy parka but only because I'm pregnant and all maternity clothes need to be navy, stripey or ideally both - sorry pet peeves of mine

Wonnle · 23/01/2022 22:03

Most of them at mine are standing in the middle of the ruddy road blocking cars from driving past as if it's there own driveway

Franticbutterfly · 24/01/2022 16:39

No, it's puffa/duvet coats round my area. I wear a black parka at the moment.

fionamadcat · 24/01/2022 18:02

I’m past doing the school run but used to be a childminder and I had 1 winter were I had a navy blue parka and each one of the 6 kids I was looking after also had a navy blue coat, we must have looked hilarious walking down the road 😂

BitterestPill · 24/01/2022 20:54

simiisme · 30/01/2022 19:50
