I had my eyebrows threaded for the first time today.

I'm getting old, my eyesight's getting worse and plucking them had become a total chore. I've not done anything with them since before Christmas.
I nipped into superdrug for some bits and got them done there. £7 and 10 minutes later they were neat, the random, long straggly ones were trimmed and I will never go back to plucking again. Well, my chin needs the odd tidy up occasionally. I had slight redness for about an hour after, but I found it pain free and oddly relaxing and would recommend it.

I've been having mine threaded for years ( as well as chin and upper lip). For me it's much better than waxing.

I'm in awe! I think I have a low pain tolerance as I had my brows and upper lip done in Debenhams once and was struggling not to scream the place down 🤣

I use those little razor things now but I think threading lasts longer.

Bluebluemoon39 · 20/01/2022 14:26

Having my eyebrows waxed and tinted is the quickest, cheapest way to knock a few years off!

ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 20/01/2022 14:28

I had it done twice and it was just so painful I’ve had to stick to waxing since, just couldn’t take the pain! It’s a shame as I think it gives a much neater result than waxing.

You could use a skin numbing cream before hand.
Other factors can make some days more painful than others. This includes tiredness, time of the month and stress levels.

Same Grin. I had my brows threaded at a brow bar in House of Fraser years ago. The pain was horrendous! I was laid back in the chair crying in front of all the saturday shoppers Grin. Never again!

I’ve tried threading but I find it very painful. Waxing and tinting works for me. I’m old and mine would look like Dennis Healey’s if I left them

Forestdweller11 · 20/01/2022 14:34

I had mine done in Debenhams too. Although I did burst into tears and was told to stop as I was putting other potential customers off. Not sure of my pain threshold as I did give birth with no pain relief what so ever, so in my world threading is more painful than childbirth...

notacooldad · 20/01/2022 14:38

All those that have had so much pain but would consider another go get some TKTX cream. Put it on 25 mins before hand.
Game changer!!!

hivemindneeded · 20/01/2022 14:41

Superdrug are good. Only agonising once and the poor young girl who did it was so apologetic, but even though I cried and she drew blood, she actually gave them the best shape they ever had and didn't need redoing for ages.

God. Yes I had my upper lip done in Debenhams once. And people stopped to watch. It was absolute agony!

SAME. I was screaming and sobbing from the pain in the middle of Debenhams. Worst pain I've ever felt in my life. FAR nastier than any aspect of c-section recovery or my ruptured ovarian cyst.

I have my eyebrows and top lip done every two weeks. It gives my eyebrows a much better definition than waxing.

dameofdilemma · 20/01/2022 14:52

There is a very wide range of eyebrow threaders out there - some are very gentle, some will draw blood.

Try to go with a recommendation would be my advice. I've been threading for 20+ years and have only ever had two bad ones (both were impulse walk ins and I suspect both were inexperienced).

I've never been able to stand having my upper lip threaded though, use an epilating stick for that.

Oblomov22 · 20/01/2022 14:52

I find threading painless. I only have it done once a year or so. I have my eyelashes and eyebrows dyed about 3 times per year.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 20/01/2022 14:54

A quick google of corticol homunculus doesn't show that many nerve endings around the eyes/eyebrows. Not enough to account for the sting!

WellTidy · 21/01/2022 12:37

I started (at the age of 46) last summer and I haven’t looked back. I get my brows and upper lip done every six weeks I think. Upper lip is absolutely agony (I have to close my eyes so that I don’t cry) but I don’t find the brows as bad. They now look really tidy to me, but in no way ‘done’.

MrsMiddleMother · 21/01/2022 14:19

I get my eyebrows waxed and tinted and it immediately makes me look more put together! I tried threading once and it was far too painful for me, glad it worked well for you

BobBobbity · 21/01/2022 14:22

Eyebrow threading is the only ‘grooming’ I regularly pay for (asides from haircuts). I don’t find it painful at all and it makes you instantly look better.

onemouseplace · 21/01/2022 14:23

I got mine threaded for the first time last month (exactly the same reasons - eyesight is too crap to do them myself) and I was so impressed - neat, smooth, wasn't painful at all, really quick and a much better result and shape than when I've had them waxed/ plucked before.

I am a complete convert.
