You can get some bargain cosmetic sets in places like Selfridges. Last year I got 2 Elizabeth Arden sets reduced in the sale and they had one of the offer things on as well so got a free bag and set of stuff also. Result!

good = straight legged gap jeans half price because belt loops broken. i have worn them to death.

bad = about a million things which we shan't mention. grey wrap cardigans seem to be worrying common though.

I tend to buy furniture in the sales, tbh. IME, clothing purchases are generally a mistake.

I had my eye on 2 items of furniture in the Next sale this year, but there were none available by the time I tried. Bum

paulaplumpbottom · 27/12/2007 19:34

The thing that are in the sales usually belong there. I never go

fishie · 27/12/2007 19:34

i hate those sales where they dig out stuff from donkeys years ago. next are a major culprit. fat face have lots of stuff left which i have never seen before so it must be ancient.

I do tend to buy odd bits and bobs for DD though.

newnamefornewyearbookwormmum · 27/12/2007 19:35

Most of my dd's clothes (especially her swimming costumes) come from sales of one description or another. Why pay full-price? .

mary portas says that shops never lose money, no matter how big the discount appears.

newnamefornewyearbookwormmum · 27/12/2007 19:37

Take them back, get the refund at full-price then buy them all again at reduced

some places don't have proper sales anymore
John Lewis is all "special purchase" stuff, no real bargains

if it is in the sale then it was overpriced to start with

newnamefornewyearbookwormmum · 27/12/2007 19:40

I sometimes think sales just prove how crap their buyers were this year . Depends what it is of course.

Well, am unimpressed with both Paul Smith and Monsoon online today, PS site is SO SLOW I lost the will to live never mind wait for a £20 reduction on a shirt and Monsoon only have stuff in odd sizes
v pleased with my JLewis and Boden buys thoiugh

fishie · 27/12/2007 21:48

hmm i have just got a pair of boden jeans which will do, but only at half price, they weren't ever worth £50. some things are just destined to be sale fodder (aka overpriced). that is why it feels so awful when a purchase is discounted, proof of a bad choice.
