Do these seem like they have some longevity stylewise or will that two tone thing make them a bit of a flash in the pan? I've decided to stop buying smart trousers when I really like jeans, so ideally if I have a really great pair of jeans I can stop shopping Hmm

I'm a bit clueless when it comes to next-level jeans, I've tried barrel/balloon styles which I like more in theory than in practice, and I have some good straight jeans but the ones I like best are two ancient pairs that belonged to dh about 20 years ago which sort of hang off me and look artfully baggy. Sometimes I peg the cuffs, sometimes I just roll them up, usually belted with a fitted jumper and Blundstones, chunky trainers or loafers. They make me feel great, and there's so little that makes me feel great in clothes now.

I'm a size 12, 5'6" if that helps.

Opinions on these Max Mara jeans pls

Style wise would you need a slim top and chunky shoes to balance them?

I like them, I think you have to order and see.

As an aside, I keep recommending them but the Indigo Marks and Spencer boyfriend jeans are exactly what you describe. They work with literally every footwear and look great with a belt. I am 12/14 on the bottom and 5.6 and got the 12 regular.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 19/01/2022 00:28

I love those!

crispinglovershighkick · 19/01/2022 00:36

Yes, I'm a 10-12 on top, pretty small-busted, usually wear fitted tops with inset sleeves (no dropped sleeves or baggy tops) and chunky ankle boots or trainers.

I like Max Mara for quality and low-key style but not sure if jeans are, Idk, their best feature as a brand. I think of them as good for coats, and I have an excellent pair of MM green leather trousers.

Thanks for the heads up re M&S. I keep hearing their jeans are really great.

Get them ordered op and try them. Low in stock in a 12. Don't let a mumsnetter get them.

I'd have a look at Me&Em jeans too

crispinglovershighkick · 19/01/2022 00:40

Great, thanks BeardedDragon.

Blink lol not buying them from Matches, they're on sale (deeper discount) elsewhere Grin But ok point taken!

A stylist told me to try Me+Em, though I've always found their trousers are masses too long and the sizing is all over the place. Never tried the jeans though, must have a look.

Longevity stylewise? If you wear something like these I don't think you care much about longevity of style, do you?

StarlightLady · 19/01/2022 04:31

I always find it difficult to judge clothing items in pics when:

  1. They are not shown on a model;
  1. No view of the back.

So, unless you have these, I would be hesitant.

SalsaLove · 19/01/2022 05:21

Definitely a flash in the pan.

Blinkinname · 19/01/2022 10:05

They photo op has posted doesn't do them justice - they look much better on the model

I'd also try Brand Alley op - I picked up some J Brand £300+ jeans for fifty quid

crispinglovershighkick · 19/01/2022 11:29

There's a video of the jeans on a size 12 model, they look like a nice compromise between barrel leg and wide leg styles.
Thanks Blink will look at Brand Alley.

Let's be honest here - they are very Marmite so not sure about "in style". If you like them @crispinglovershighkick go for it.

MarshaBradyo · 19/01/2022 12:26

I really don’t like those but if you do and want to wear them over time then it’s fine

CorrBlimeyGG · 19/01/2022 12:30

The seam down the back is terrible. They make the model (in the video) look dumpy.

I don't dislike them, but I don't think they're a long term investment.

MarshaBradyo · 19/01/2022 12:31

The model looks dumpy I agree

Verite1 · 19/01/2022 12:46

I think they look incredibly unflattering on the model so that doesn’t bode well! I don’t think that all clothes have to be “flattering” but they just look odd - like they don’t fit properly anywhere!

Milomonster · 19/01/2022 12:53

I really like them but they don’t suit the model. I think this style is for a tall and slim figure with straight hips.

Jumpingintomenopause · 19/01/2022 13:03

Have a look at Trinny Woodalls Instagram jeans specials.

Max Mara Chica jeans are worth a look too, no seam.

crispinglovershighkick · 19/01/2022 18:12

They look big on the model, I think they should sit higher on the waist. I don't think they look dumpy, but I really like baggy jeans.

Jumping thanks, have you got a link? I scrolled through her IG but can't find the jeans post. I like the cut of the Chicca jeans but looking for non-stretch.

I was going to say no but if they make you feel great then I would say get them.
